Island off the NW coast of Europe, one of the
British Isles. It consists of England,
Scotland, and Wales, and is part of the
United Kingdom. The name is derived from the
Roman name Britannia, which in turn is
derived from ancient Celtic name of the
inhabitants, Bryttas.
