1881-1948. German field marshal. A staff
officer in World War I, he became in 1938
commander in chief of the army and a member
of Hitler's secret cabinet council. He was
dismissed after his failure to invade Moscow
1941. Captured in 1945, he died before being
tried in the Nuremburg trials.
