1940- . English cricketer born in Yorkshire, England's most prolific run-maker with 8,114 runs in test cricket. He was banned as a test player in 1982 for taking part in matches against South Africa. He played in 108 test matches and in 1981 overtook Gary Sober's world record total of test runs. Twice, in 1971 and 1979, his average was over 100 runs in an English season.
