Preferences Help
=================

   This  screen allows  you  to  change  the  program  to  suit  your  own
'preferences'.  It will also allow you to load another family database.

Change default
---------------
   Choose  this  to  load  another  family  database.   If  you  save  the
preferences by pressing on save,this database will be automatically loaded
for you when you first load Genie (if  the database is on a different disk
then you will be  prompted  for  the correct  disk).   If you choose 'use'
instead then the new database will be loaded(handy for selecting different
family trees) and all current settings will be used, but the next time you
load Genie, the settings will be reset to what they were previously.

Person index
-------------
   If there is a tick in  this  box, then  the person index will be copied
into the device shown before the tick box (default is RAM). The device can
be changed to  whatever  you  want  (click  on  the  text and change).  If
something like RAM or RRD  (or  similar) is  used then the sorting process
will be considerably speeded up at the expense of memory (memory useage is
about 55 bytes per person - so 500 people  would take about 28K - not much
compared to the speed difference).  For  efficiency,  it is better to have
this selected unless you have a very large database.

Marriage reasons
-----------------
   You may change any of the reasons for next marriages here.  The maximum
length of a reason is sixteen characters  and  they  need not be typed one
after the other. Any new reasons will automatically be added to the cyclic
gadget on the marriage details screen for both husband and wife.

Extra field names
------------------
   You may change any of these field  names  to  suit your own needs.  The
name length for the field can be  no more than sixteen characters although
each of the user-definable fields is  capable  of storing 40 characters of
information,either numbers or letters, and can also be included for output
from the list-view option.
