===================================================================== ======================DOC File SS==================================== **********SUPER SCROLL************* SUPER SCROLL(SS) Version 2.0 This version is placed in the Public Domain providing this Doc file remains intact with the executable. Finally SS will load, display and scroll ALL non-overscan IFF pics. This includes HAM and HALFBRIGHT modes. Requires Any Amiga, 1 disk drive, 1 meg(for HAM&HI-RES), and the 2 support Libraries included in this archive. SS can be run from the CLI or the Workbench. **************************************************************** **************OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS**************************** The 2 support libraries ILBM.lib and REQUESTER.lib must reside in the currently assigned LIBS directory. If you do not want to copy these two library files to your boot disk and just want to try out this HACK do this from the CLI: makedir ram:LIBS copy SYS:LIBS ram:LIBS all copy df0:ILBM.library ram:LIBS copy df0:REQUESTER.library ram:LIBS assign LIBS: ram:LIBS WINDOW EDITOR NOTE: This two support libraries are in the Libs: directory of this disk, so they should work properly when you boot from this disk. Otherwise, you'll have copy them to your system libs: or do the assigns as the author suggests. The above CLI commands assume the 2 required libraries are on a disk in drive df0:. Obviously you may have to change this parameter. If you don't get the 2 libraries installed correctly the program SS will not load and will tell you so! OKAY, so now you either type SS from the CLI or you click on the SS icon from the Workbench. A file requester will pop up asking you to select a file for displaying. You can: 1. Click once on the filename you want, then Click the OK button. OR 2. Double click on the filename you want to select. Within a few seconds your selected file will be displayed on the screen. When you are ready press the "ESC" key,(Escape). The screen will blank and the picture will start to scroll from bottom to top. To quit wait until the screen has scrolled almost to the top and press the "ESC" key again. You are brought back to the the start with your pictured displayed in its original state. When you are done looking at it Click the LEFT mouse button to return to the File Requester. To alter scroll speed, press the left mouse button to slow the scroll rate down and/or press the right mouse button to return it to its default speed. Again your input is only monitored when the screen has scrolled all of the way to the top. That's it folks! *********BUGS,QUIRCKS,CUDOS******************* First of all, this program would not be possible without the 2 support libraries from JEFF GLATT and his band of DISSIDENTS. I cannot recommend his work enough to you would be programmers out there. It will save you days of work. If you are interested in Jeff's work, or just want to get the most out of his FILE REQUESTER then pick up FRED FISH Disk's 237 & 203. Thank you JEFF! When pressing the MOUSE butons or the ESC key it is easier and surer if you simply hold the appropriate button or key down for an extended period of time. It does not hurt anything and it insures that your input will be picked up by the program. OK, so I finally can scroll all IFF modes. BUT you will notice that some of the lace modes, depending on the number of bitplanes will "flicker" quite a bit.(This also varies quite a bit from monitor to monitor). Since this is a DEMO that people will try on all Display modes I had to make some compromises. Also I do not Disable/Enable around my update routines because the Interrupts are shut off too long for INTUITION and it acts a slight bit crazy which I did not want to impose on the user who is just looking at a DEMO. Any of you who tried my earlier versions know that they scrolled an Interlace pic without any flicker. That's because the timing was set up more specifically for those modes and I did Disable interrupts during Copper list update. So until I release an update you are stuck with this version. Now that my scroll routine is stable, I will finally be able to precalculate the best scroll rates for each mode. The next revision will finally incorporate this feature. In addition I have found that you can control the scroll rate in say vertical inches/second from 0(Stationary no scroll) - TO so fast it gives you a headache to stare at the screen. Surprisingly there are quite a few good rates that offer super smooth effect. Again I must finish writing these down for precalculating purposes. ********HINTS,TIPS********** In lo-res,med-res, and Ham you should slow the scroll rate down by one or 2 clicks of the left mouse button. Keep trying until you get the super smooth effect. If the picture you select takes more than 2-3 seconds to load your CHIP memory is probably fragmented bad-REBOOT! Memory fragmentation will occur more rapidly if you keep loading pics of different screen resolutions. Try to load pics from the same group resolution in a row. The first screen to scroll may be a little Jerky, this too shall pass. ****************COMING UP!!************************* Yes Virginia, I do have this Hack working in OVERSCAN. I need to test it in a few more OVERSCAN different widths to make sure it is fully compatible with everything. SuperBitMap compatibility. Super Fine scroll rate selection through a Requester. Loading Multiple files. Really the best thing that has come out of all of this is a TELEPROMPTER. It should be done this week and really works well. Use any Wordprocessor, unlimited text and super smooth scrolling really add up. Thanks again Mr. Glatt and DISSIDENTS! This update took so long because I bought a new assembler, DEVPAC, and had to learn to speak BLINK,XDEF and XREF. This sure makes programming much easier. DEVPAV- highly recommended!!
