OPTICOMMS.2 - THE ULTIMATE COMMS DISK ------------------------------------- Welcome to OPTICOMMS.2, the only comms disk you will ever need. CRUNCHED! --------- To cram so many utilities onto this disk all the files and their documention have been crunched using Powerpacker v4.0. In addition all the device drivers, libraries, printer drivers, fonts and basically anything else that can be has been crunched. Because of this it is necessary for PPLOADSEG to be in the startup-sequence of the boot disk. This could cause a problem if you wish to tranfer ZOOM or any of the libraries (which are current versions (see end of text)) to another disk or to a hard drive, eg. the ARP.LIBRARY has been crunched. To counter act this, I have included the comand DECRUNCH in the C: directory on this disk, this makes it possible to decrunch the text files/libraries for inclusion on other media. To use DECRUNCH type:- DECRUNCH OLDFILENAME UNCRUNCHEDFILENAME EG. DECRUNCH DF0:LIBS/XPRZMODEM.LIBRARY RAM:XPRZMODEM.LIBRARY will create an uncrunched version of xprzmodem.library in RAM: that can then be copied to the LIBS: directory of your choice. ONWARDS ... ----------- Ok, well now that's over with, now to explain the set-up. Basically the menu screen is infact a CLI screen with the border removed, it is perfectly possible to use any of the archivers from this screen. If having done so you find you can no-longer read the menu, simply press SHIFT and HELP together to redisplay the menu. The C: directory is made up of ARP (Amigados Replacement Project) commands that are far smaller than the standard workbench equivelents, and all the command you should need have been included. Once again, wherever possible the C: directory has been crunched. The shell used is the ARP ASHELL shell replacement. All the libraries used on this disk are current versions powerpacker.library v35.255 xprzmodem.library v2.50 xprkermit.library v1.50 arp.library v39.1 all other libraries are irrelevant version numbers NCOMM HOST NOTES ... -------------------- NComm has a feature called HOST mode which is totally un-necessary in the day to day running of the software. Basically it will enable the user to set up a BBS host sytem using the ncomm software. This is very difficult to do, and anyone wishing to set up a BBS would use one of the existing fine dedicated programs available and not a scripted NComm. However, as HOST is supplied with NComm, I wished to include it on this disk so users may brows, and at least have the choice of whether to use it or not. To this end, I have included it in archived form, the archive is called HOST.lha and can be found in the NComm directory. My reasoning is this, anyone wishing to set up a BBS must know how to un-archive a file, and including an archive on the disk will give new users something to try and un-archive.
