Contents Of C Directory ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In this directory is a whole range of useful commands which should be copied into the C: directory of the workbench disk you are always using. This makes access to that command quick and efficient. Documents, whether long or shot, are provided for all commands. The Contents: DiffDir - Reports on various differences in two directories. DiskSalv - Repairs damaged DOS disks. FFormat - Fast Formatter for DOS disks. Mked - Removes binary from files so you can use Ed to edit them. Short for "MakeEdable". Most - Text and Iff displayer, found on all TOPIK disks. printer - Allows "on-the-go" modification of printer settings. rot - "Report on Tasks". Displays current task list. space - Sets up background task which neatly shows free space on disks, fast ram, and chip ram. split - Divides a file into two. Main purpose is for ARCing files which would otherwise be too large. syscheck - Unique program which will scan your bootdisk and report on whether or not you have the latest version of libraries, etc. on that disk. Obviously will be outdated soon, but useful if you're converting to V1.3! Turbo - Minimizes CPU time by turning off various DMA at the push of a button. Useful for CPU hogging tasks like Ray Tracing and allows optimum speed of the CPU. xarc - Compact, quick program to de-arc files. chop - Rescues wrecked WARP files by CHOPping off their header. Useful if you use WARP a lot. dirk - This program displays how your system is running by the background colours of your workbench screen. Very easy to see if memory is running low, too many tasks at once, etc. drive - Reports on drives for Amiga. memtrace - Program which will be of benefit to programmers who have just written a new program. Tracks Alloc and Deallocation of memory so helps to make sure a program is returning all the memory it used in execution. mkidir - This program is used extensively by TOPIK. Exact same usage as the AmigaDOS makedir command, except a drawer icon is created at the same time. If you're creating a disk in the CLI which will work from the Workbench, it makes life a whole lot easier. ros - "Report on Storage". Displays free memory on storage devices. screenx - Great Screen utility which allows saving of screens, removal of screens, etc. Screenx runs neatly in the background. Sound - Plays sound sample of any type. Speed - Tests the speed of your drive. Sweep - Frees unused ALLOCated memory, removes libraries not in use. Useful after memtrace if you discover a program has hogged memory but not returned it as free.
