It is from here that you can view/access any date within Voyagers range. The range is from the 1st of January, 1801 until the 31st of December, 2101. The calendar section is actually made up of three separate calendars. The large one to the top with the control buttons at either end is the main calendar that reflects the current calendar date. The two smaller ones at the bottom reflect the month before and after. There are various ways in which you can select a new date. The main way is to click on the `Select New Month' button to select the month, `Select New Year' to select a year and then to simply click on any of the dates shown in the main calendar. Other ways include selecting the following buttons from the main calendar to... «« Go back a month. »» Go forward a month. |«« Go back a year. »»| Go forward a year. Specify New Date. This will bring up a string requester in which you can directly enter a date, such as, 23.05.1995. Selecting the button that contains the system date will reset the calendar to that date. You can also select any of the dates shown in either of the two smaller calendars at the bottom. This will rest the main calendar to that date.   The Diary. On the right hand side of Voyagers main screen you will find the diary. It is here that you enter any information relating to a specific date that has been selected from the main calendar. With the diary you can enter a start time, an end time, a category, an occasion, a location & up to 9 pages of text. You can also create a detailed daily planner and have up to 50 lines of text in the entry notes. All of these different sections go up to making a single entry. You may have as many entries as memory permits. Also, you are not limited to having one entry per date as you are with some other organisers. `N.B. With this shareware version the number of entries is limited to just 20. The registered version will allow approx. 5000 per megabyte of free memory. (±1000)' To enter information into the diary first select the desired date (see chapter `The Calendar.') and start typing. Entering times... To enter either a start or an end time into your diary simply click on the appropriate button. A small requester will appear in which you can type the time. Once you have typed the desired time it will then be transferred to the diary. Clicking on the Sys button from the time requester will automatically set it to the current system time. The Cl button will erase the time from your diary. The Main Diary... The main diary consists of the occasion & location fields & the nine pages below. To enter information here you simply start typing as you would with a text editor. You may use the cursor keys or the mouse to position the cursor. The numbered buttons (1 - 9) that run down the right hand side of the diary give you access to all 9 pages. However, you only need to use these buttons when you are viewing an entry as when you are typing a new page will automatically appear when you reach the end of the last one. The Diary Controls... «« This will scroll you back through the list of entries for this date. »» Scrolls you forward. |«« Resets the diary to the first entry for the current calendar date. »»| Resets the diary to the last entry for this date. Create New. This feature will allow you to create additional entries for a particular date. Kill Entry. Will erase the current diary entry. Kill Date. Will erase ALL diary entries for this date. Be careful! ##?. Will attempt to calculate the total number of entries for the current calendar date and the current diary entries position within them.   File Routines. This section covers loading & saving files, the previous list, creating & using the password system and converting old Epoch Master files to Voyager format. From the Project menu. Load. Will attempt to load in a Voyager calendar file. Save. Will save a Voyager calendar file to disk under the current filename. Save As. As with Save but you will be presented with a file requester to save your file. Load Previous. Whenever you load or save a new calendar file Voyager keeps a record of it. By selecting this option you can instantly load any one of the last 20 files without having to track them down with the file requester. Create Password. Allows for the creation of a password that will be used the next time you save the current file. If a password already exists then you will first have to confirm it before you can proceed. The next time you save the current file, your new password will be encoded into it. The next time you (or anyone) loads this file you will be asked for this password. Voyager will refuse to load this file unless the correct password is given. Erase Password. Switches off the password system so that the next time a file is saved it will not have a password attached to it. You will first have to confirm any old password before you can proceed. Epoch Master. This will attempt to convert an old Epoch Master calendar file to Voyager format. A new file will be created with the same name as the Epoch Master file but will have a .Voyager extension added to it. You will also be given the option to load this new file.   Search Routines. Global Search from the search menu will present you with a string requester in which you should type a string that will make a match, partial or otherwise, with any text in the diary. After you have entered a string you will be asked for the scan criterion. You can choose between.. Current Calendar Date Onwards. In which case the search will start from that date and ignore all entries before. From Start Of File. The search will start with the earliest diary entry. Select Your Own Range. You will be prompted for two dates. Your search will then start from your first date and end with the last. If the search was successful and a match was found you will then be presented with the details of the match. From there you then have the option to either continue the search, reset the calendar and diary to that entry or abort the whole thing. Indexed search from the search menu attempts to make a more detailed match. You will be presented with a multiple string requester in which you can enter text next to the relevant fields. Only entries whose fields match with your requirements will be picked up. So, for example, if you entered Meeting next to Occasion, London next to Location and George next to Dairy/Pl only entries with meetings in London with George would be found. As with Global Search, you can select your own scan criterion and if a match is found can continue, goto that entry or abort the whole thing. Future Search simply scans the next 7 days from the current calendar date for any entries. The number of days that are scanned can be changed in the Calendar section of the Configuration menu. Next Entry will locate the next entry after the current calendar date.   Edit Routines. From the Edit menu. Cut Entry cuts the current diary entry and stores it in memory. Copy Entry simply copies the current entry to memory. Paste Entry pastes an entry either cut or copied into the diary on the current calendar date. Delete Entry & Undelete Entry work the same way as Cut & Paste. Global Delete works in the same way as Global Search (see chapter Search Routines.) but this time will delete all matches found. Indexed Delete works like Indexed Search but (you've guessed it!) deletes all matches found. Delete Previous will allow you to remove filenames that have been stored in the previous list. (see chapter File Routines.)   The Sift Function. Select Sift from the bottom control bar or Left Amiga S. The sift function allows you to cross match information held in your diary with information held in either of Voyagers address books. Once selected a vertical bank of red buttons will appear running down the left hand side of your diary. Each of the red buttons is lined up with a field of the diary. Selecting one of these buttons will and then either address book one or two will attempt to match the text held in the diary to the right of that button with anything in the selected address book. If a match is found with the address book it will be displayed to you. You will also be given the option to continue the search, open the address book at that page, print that page (registered version) or abort. The yellow box with a ? at the bottom will allow you to enter your own string to search the address book(s) with.   The Diary Index. With the Diary Index you may view your entire calendar file in one go. The diary index can be used in two ways. Either as has been said, to view your entire calendar file, or, by using Search Index, in which case you will be asked to enter a string. Only entries that match with that string will then be shown in the index. The diary index's main window is divided into two main sections. The left hand side will show you date, occasion and location of every entry in your diary while the right hand side shows a `Time Frame' of the entry to its left. The Time Frame window is titled `0...3...6...12...15...18...21...' which represents the hours of the day with 0 being midnight, 12 midday etc. and will have different coloured bars below. The start of the bar will be determined by the Start Time of a particular entry while the end of the bar will be determined by the end time. The colour of the bar depends on the category that you have given to that entry. 0 to 24 is blue. 25 to 49 is yellow. 50 to 74 is red. 75 to 99 is white. By clicking on an entry in the left side window you will be presented with a more detailed view of it including the option to jump directly to that entry in the main calendar. All entries that are before (earlier) than the current system date will be shown in red while all entries that are from today onwards will be presented in white. The following functions are available by selecting the buttons in the diary index's title bar. Print. Simply sends the diary index to your printer. Today. Will reset the diary index so that it's first entry shown is from today onwards. Search. Allows you to specify a string to search the diary with. If a match is found the index will be reset to that entry. Pg Up. Sends the index back a single page. Pg Dn. Jumps forward a page. Help. You're looking at it..   Reminders & Alarms. The Alarm system.. Couldn't be easier. All you need to do is set either the start or end time (or both) in your diary as normal. Once the time is displayed in the diary, click on it. The label Alm will then appear next to the time. Your alarm has now been set for that date & time of this entry. As soon as the system date and time match that entries date and the time for which the alarm has been set a window will appear giving you the details of that entry. If Voyagers screen is behind other screens it will be brought forward. Also, if Voyager is in shrunken mode, Voyager will re-open its main calendar screen and show you the alarm. After you have closed the alarm window it will revert back to its shrunken mode. To switch the alarm off, click it again. Dos Linked Alarms.. With this option it is possible to execute any normal CLI command automatically whenever your alarm goes off. As each entry can have its own alarms set, so it can have a CLI command linked to it. To link a CLI command to an alarmed entry enter the following into the first page of the diary. {EX/A} Command {AR} Arguments Where Command is the CLI Command and Arguments are its arguments (if it has any). Then switch the alarm on. It is important to switch your alarm on last so that diary information such as occasion, category, location & any CLI commands will be loaded into the alarm list. As an example, set the calendar to todays date and enter the following into the diary. {EX/A} C:ED {AR} S:User-Startup Now set one of the time fields and switch the alarm on. When this alarm goes off you will now be given the chance to execute the command `C:ED S:User-Startup'. If you want a CLI command to execute automatically without asking you first, use the label {EX/D} instead. N.B. The {EX/A} or {EX/D} and {AR} labels can appear anywhere in your diary as long as they are on the FIRST page. So something like this.. Freds' Birthday tomorrow.. Remember to buy him something to do with fishing. {EX/D} C:PlayMusic {AR} DH1:Music/HappyBirthday Is quite legal.. If you wish to execute a script file then you must remember to use the C: command Execute. Also, any commands or arguments with spaces in them are automatically enclosed in quotes "" "". The File Reminder.. The Reminder System may be used to give you advance warnings and/or reminders of specific events on or around a specific date everytime a calendar file is loaded. To create a reminder for the current file select Reminder from the control bar at the bottom of the main screen. You will then be presented with a window in which you can enter the date of your reminder, the `Range' in days either side of this date that you wish to be reminded, an importance level and up to four lines of text. Example: If you wish to be reminded of a specific event that is to occur on 14.04.1995 with a range of 10 days either side your would.. Enter 14.04.1995 into the date cell. Enter 10 into both the Range - & + cells. Enter, say, 99 into the importance cell. And enter your message into the 4 available lines below. You would then select `Done' and save your calendar file. Now everytime you loaded this file when the date was between 15.04.1995 & 23.04.1995 you would be reminded of this event. Reminder Controls.. Done. As above. ««. Moves you 1 back through the reminder list. |««. Moves you the first reminder of the list. »». Moves 1 on through the list. »»|. Moves you to the last item in the list. N.B. You may have up to 30 reminders per file. Delete This Note. Removes the current reminder from the list. You will be asked to confirm this action first. Delete All Notes. Erases the entire list. Again, you will first have to confirm. Quit. Quits without making any changes to the list.   The Daily Planner. The daily planner is simply an addition to the main diary and allows you to create `schedules' for each of your entries. The whole thing is editable including the times down the left hand side. Simply click using the mouse or use the cursor keys to position the cursor, and start typing. The following controls are available. Ctrl D .. Delete the current cursor line. Ctrl I .. Insert a line at the current cursor position. Shift Up .. Set cursor to the top. Shift Dn .. Set cursor to the bottom. Ctrl P .. Print the daily planner. When information has been entered into the planner and the entry stored, the words `Daily Planner' will appear in red from the main diary. This is so that you can tell `at a glance' if a diary entry has any information in its daily planner. Also, all the search routines from the main calendar will advise you if there is also information in the daily planner.   The Notepad. The notepad is used for various aspects of Voyagers operation. From the main calendar files notepad, the diarys entry notes and the address notes for the address books. Basically, it's only function is to allow you to type in text for storage. It's controls are.. Ctrl I .. Inserts a line at the current cursor position. Ctrl Y .. Deletes the line at the current cursor position. Ctrl U .. Undeletes a line deleted with Ctrl Y. Ctrl P .. Sends your notes to the printer. Registered version.. Cl button. Clears the notepad. OK button when done else click the close gadget.   The Year Planner. The Year Planner has been designed so that you can take an overall view of the current calendar year. Rather than have 12 little individual calendars, I have opted to display it in `table' format with the months listed vertically down the left hand side and the days of the week horizontally along the top and bottom. This should be much easier to read at a glance. Any dates that the year planner is showing that have entries attached to them will be highlighted in blue so that they may be easily picked out. The current calendar date will be highlighted in red. Clicking on any of the dates shown in the planner will a) bring up a summary of the diary entry for that date with the option of either scrolling back or forth through the list or actually resetting the main calendar to that particular entry. b) If there is no diary entry for that date, give you the option to reset that calendar to that date. Once in the year planner you may reset the current year by either selecting one of the two square blue buttons to the left (top & bottom) to scroll up and down the years or by clicking on the `New Year' button in which case you may enter a year from 1801 to 2100. You may also dump the year planner screen to the printer by selecting the `Print' button.   Repeat. The Repeat section of Voyager will allow you to take any current entry and repeat it at any time interval (i.e. every month etc.) up to 99 times. You can choose a combination of days, weeks, lunar months, calendar months and years. Simply set the slider next to each time interval to the desired value and then select the number of times that this entry is to be repeated by using the cycles slider. For example. To repeat an entry yearly for 10 years simply set the year slider to 1 and the cycles slider to 10 and then select the Reiterate button.   The Anniversary List. This feature provides a simple yet effective way of storing yearly reminders without having to enter them into your diary or clogging up your files with countless reminders for birthdays, wedding anniversaries etc. All you need to do is enter the information once and Voyager will take care of the rest. As an example, to enter a birthday that occurs on the 14th of May every year from the year 1995, do the following. Click on the Anniversary button from the main calendar or select Left Amiga-A from the keyboard. This will bring up the anniversary list window. The window is divided into 6 large boxes, containing lists for the first six months of the year. Click with the mouse in the box titled May and the following options will appear. ° Edit/View Anniversary List. This will bring up a similar requester containing the entire list for May. If this list is empty a message to that effect will be displayed instead. ° Create New Anniversary. As the name suggests, this option will allow you to enter new anniversaries into the current list. Once selected you will be presented with a string requester in which, using the above example, you should type the following. Freds' Birthday Next click on the Date button and enter 14 and then on the button marked Initial Year and select 1995. The `14' is of course the 14th of May and `1995' is a signal to Voyager to display this message in your diary as of the 14th of May, 1995 and then every year onwards. ° Delete List Item. This will bring up a list of the currently selected month and give you the option to remove any or all the items held. Once you have entered an anniversary item it will then be displayed in the main diary whenever the items date is selected. So with our example, everytime the calendar is set to May the 14th in the year 1995 onwards your diary will show the message.. {AN} Freds' Birthday To gain access to the later part of the year, July - December, select the »» button from the windows title bar. To go back select ««. All information entered into the Anniversary list will, of course be saved with your file.   The Preset List. The preset list allows you to create a list of labelled dates that can be accessed at any time. To create a preset date period select Mark Preset from the Presets menu. You will be presented with a string requester in which you should enter a label for this date. Once you have created a preset it can be called at any time by selecting Call Preset and selecting it from the list. The calendar will then be reset to that date. Example. Set the calendar to 25.12.1996, call Mark Preset and type Christmas. From the Preset menu. Erase Preset. Will allow you to erase a single preset from the list. Erase List. Erases the entire preset list. Load Preset List. Loads a new preset list either from an existing calendar file or from a file save with Save Preset List. Save Preset List. Saves the current preset list to disk.   The Address Book. The address book has been designed along the lines of a thumb index system. There are two address books, Address Book One & Address Book Two. They have been designed in such a way that you can use them for anything you like. For example, you could use the first as an address book and the second as a database. The choice is yours... To enter information into the address book, simply select the page you require by clicking on one of the small boxes down the right hand side (A - Z) or by pressing the left Alt button and typing A to Z and start typing. Unlike some other systems, Voyager will allow you to store any information you like under any letter you like. Just like a `real' address book, and will not automatically re-assign your addresses according to their surname. If, at a later date you wish to organise your address book according to surname (i.e. so that all surnames starting with P are under the letter `P' and all names starting with S are under `S' etc.) then this facility is available to you at the press of a button. You also have the option to be able to alphabetically sort the individual sections of your address book (A - Z) without moving them out of their lettered locations. The Address Book Menus.. Click the right mouse button to bring up the pop up menu system. The Project Menu.. New.. Erases the current address book from memory. If changes have been made since it was last saved, you will first be asked to confirm this action. Load.. Loads a Voyager address file. Nuff said!! Save.. Saves the current address file under an existing name. Save As.. Saves the current address file via a file requester giving you the option to give it a new name. Load Previous.. Voyager keeps a record of up to 20 previous files that have been loaded. To load in one of these files simply select this option and then select the desired file from the requester. Create Password.. Allows for the creation of a password that will be used when the current address file is next saved. If there is an existing password you will first have to confirm it. Erase Password.. Switches off the password system. Again, you will first have to confirm any existing password. Kill File.. Erases a file from disk. Epoch Master.. Will allow you to load in an Epoch Master V1.1 to V4.0 address or database file. The Edit Menu.. Cut.. Removes the current address from your book and stores it in memory. Copy.. As with Cut but stores it in memory only. Paste.. Inserts an address that has previously been cut or copied. Sort Book. This will bring up a requester containing.. Sort Individual Sections.. This will allow you to sort the individual sections of your address book by surname without moving them out of their lettered locations. Sort Entire Book. This option will completely re organise your address book by grouping all addresses according to the first letter of their surname. i.e. all addresses with surnames starting with T will be grouped under `T' etc. Delete Line.. Deletes the current cursor line. All lines below will be moved up one. Undelete Line.. Inserts a line deleted with the above into the current cursor position. All lines below will be moved down one. Insert Line.. Inserts an empty line at the current cursor position. Insert Page.. Inserts an empty page ready for editing. The current address will be move on one. Indexed Delete.. Will attempt to delete all addresses that match with the selected fields of the current address. To select a field simply click on one or more of the red buttons that run down the left hand side of the address book. Once selected a yellow `tick' will appear. Example.. Imagine that the current address had the name `Smith' under surname, the title `Mr.' under title and the town `London' under town. Selecting the fields Surname, Title & Town and then performing and Indexed Delete would delete all the Mr. Smiths of London from your address book. The Search Menu.. Find.. Brings up a string requester in which you can type text that will match with any of the information in your address book. Once a match has been found it will be displayed and you will be given the option to halt or continue the search. Replace.. Simply allows you to replace one piece of text with another throughout your address book. Indexed Search.. As with Indexed Delete above, but this time will display any matches found and again, give you the option to continue the search or halt. Previous Address.. Resets the address book to the previous address of the current lettered section. If this is the first address then the address book will be reset to the previous letter. Next Address.. Allows you to scroll through your addresses one by one. When the last address of a lettered section is reached the next call to Next Address will result in an empty page being displayed ready for editing. First Address.. Sets the address book to the first address of the current section. Last Address.. As above but sets it to the last. The Tools Menu.. Calculator.. Guess what this does!! Sift Diary.. Attempts to make a match with the FIRST selected field of your address book and the diary. If a match is found then that diary entry will be displayed. From there you can then exit the address book and jump straight to that entry in the diary, continue the search or abort. Sift Other.. With this option you can attempt to match selected fields of the current address with addresses held in the other address book. Report.. Displays your address book in report style. There are three different ways of building a report. These are.. Total.. Your entire address book is displayed. Global Search.. Only those addresses that match with a search string are shown. Indexed.. Only those addresses that match with the selected fields of the current address are shown. Read chapter `Address Book Report' for more info or enter the report option and select Help. The Print Menu.. Sorry, your printer is not supported in this Shareware version. The registered version gives great control & flexibility over the printing of your address book. Address Notes.. This is the only thing that isn't covered with the menu system. It allows for up to 50 lines of additional text to be added to each of your addresses. To bring up the notepad simply select the `Notes' button from the control bar at the bottom.   Address Book Report. Using this option you can elect to view all or part of the address book in `report' format. Once the report has been displayed you can scroll horizontally using the slider at the bottom of the window to view all 15 fields. The vertical slider will allow you to scroll through the list itself. Clicking on any of the field name buttons along the top will force Voyager to `Hold' that information so that when you scroll through the fields horizontally the `Held' fields will not be altered. This gives you the ability to display the most important fields in one go rather than having to constantly scroll back and forth to see what's what! The current state of the report window, i.e. Held fields & the current top line will be saved along with the address file itself, so once you have setup your desired display it will need no further attention. Clicking on any of the lines of information in the report will bring up a window in which that address can be viewed in full. You can then go on to print (registered version only.) that address or to exit the report and reset the address book to that entry. To search for a specific entry select the Search button located in the report windows title bar. If a match is found it will be displayed on the top line and you will be given the choice to continue the search or abort.   The List/Invoice System. The List/Invoice system has been designed to allow you to create such things as Shopping Lists, Parts Lists, Business Invoices in fact anything you can think of. The basic idea is that you enter a quantity, a description of the item and its unit cost. The system will then work out the value of the entry and also keep a running total of all of the list entries so far. At any time you can `select' items in the list by simply clicking on their item number. The item number will then turn red and the label {OFF} will appear next to the description. This item will then no longer be taken into account when the list is recalculated. It will also not be printed and so, taking the shopping list as an example, you could run down the entire list selecting only the items that you wish to purchase. You would then be presented with an accurate list that you could take to the supermarket with you. The following are the main features of the List/Invoice system that haven't already been discussed elsewhere.. The Tools Menu.. Sort List `A - Z' will sort your entire list into alphabetical order based on the description cells. Sort List `Z - A' will do the same but in reverse order. Select All will `Switch Off' the entire list. Deselect All will Switch it back on again. Swap Selections will reverse the order of selected and deselected items. Short Cuts.. Ctrl Y will delete the current cursor line. This will cause the entire list to be recalculated. Ctrl U will re-insert a line previously deleted with Ctrl Y at the current cursor position. Ctrl I will insert an empty line ready for editing at the current cursor position. If you do not use this line it will be deleted again as soon as you move off of it. If you want to insert an empty line and keep it there, simply enter a space in the description cell.   Moving Windows. Unlike most other intuition based applications, you cannot move Voyagers window by dragging them around by their title bar. This is partly to do with the way I have designed them and the way in which my programming language behaves. However, you can move 99% of Voyagers windows around the screen by first pressing the left shift key and keeping it pressed click the mouse pointer where you want the top left corner of a window to be. One strange side effect from all this is that if you try to position a windows top left corner at the very top of the screen, the pointer becomes locked on the screens title bar and the screen scrolls up and down without you having to press the mouse key. If this happens simply press the left mouse key again to unlock it. It's a funny old world!   Configuration. File Operations.. Default Calendar sets the name and path of the calendar file that Voyager will automatically load when it's first run. Likewise for Default Address Book One/Two, Default List System. Help System sets the name and path of THIS doc file so that when you click on any of the Help buttons or use the Index system Voyager knows where to find it. Future Scan. If selected (ticked) Voyager will scan the next 7 days for entries when first run. Show Calendar Entries. If selected the number of entries for a particular date will appear in the main calendar next to that date. Start Shrunk. If selected Voyager will default to its shrunken state when first run. Backup Files. If selected all files saved will be backed up with a .bak extension. Load Defaults. If selected Voyager will attempt to load in all the files for its various sections when first run. Calendar.. Days Of The Week allows you to change the names given to Monday to Sunday. Months Of The Year is the same but allows changes to be made to January to December. Abbreviations. Allows you to change the abbreviations used with 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc. Useful if you are using another language other than English. Set Future Scan. Sets the number of days the will be used with future scan and Future Search. (7 to 366 days.) Set Voyager Screen Blanker. Sets the number of minutes of inactivity that have to elapse before Voyager turns the screen black. (1 to 120 minutes. 0 = Off) NoClock. This is for those of you who don't have a battery backed up clock on board. With this option on, everytime Voyager runs it will first prompt you for the correct date and time before it does anything else. Diary.. Alarm System.
