TST - TheScreenTool English Documentation for TST Version 1.22, 10.2.1993 by Kai Rode KAI_RODE@AWORLD.ZER (Z-Netz) kai_rode@aworld.aworld.de (Usenet) TST-TheScreenTool is Copyright ©1992,1993 by Kai Rode This program is, as its name implies, a tool-program for Screens. With TST you can change a screen's palette, close it if the program using it has crashed, print it (or a part of it) and save it (or a part of it) as an IFF- ILBM-file. It can use the XPK-compression libraries. XPK is a modular com- pression method which uses several libraries which have a name consisting of four letters. Examples: NONE - no algorithm, data is saved uncompressed RLEN - runlength as used in the ILBM-Standard, quick but not efficient NUKE - fast, but effective SHRI - awfully slow, but even better compression If XPK-Compression is selected, the ILBM-standard RLEN-compression is disabled in order to achieve better compression results than if a precompressed picture is XPKed. TST supports OS3.0-style 24-Bit-ColorMaps, but this hasn't been tested so far. Please report to the author if there are any problems. I. Copyright and Distribution All rights on this program remain with the author. Permission is granted to give this program away personally or via modem if no money is charged. The program may be included in "Public-Domain-Libraries", but the disk with TST mustn't be sold for more than $5 or 4 pounds. This rule doesn't apply to Fred Fish and his AmigaLibDisks. The program must be distributed unmodified and complete with all the following files: TheScreenTool - the program TheScreenTool.info - its icon TheScreenTool.dok - the german doc TheScreenTool.doc - the english doc deutsch/TST.catalog - the german catalog-file TSTLOC.h - the C-headerfile with the texts for different languages This program is GIFTWARE. The Author wants you to send him an appropiate do- nation if you use the program regularily. You decide what is appropiate. I would prefer money, but other non-explosive-donations are also accepted. I would also be satisfied if you send me a little letter (EMAIL preferred). II. DISCLAIMER NO WARRANTY IS MADE, NEITHER EXPLICIT NOR IMPLICIT, FOR THIS PROGRAM. THE AUTHOR IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT OR OTHER DAMAGE WHICH OCCURS THROUGH THE USE OF THIS PROGRAM. III. If anybody is able to translate the program or its documentation into another language, he shall do so and send me the files. The texts used in the program are in the file TSTLOC.h. Put the translation in the comments, like I did with the german texts. Put the abbrevation of the language before the trans- lation. Of course, suggestions and bug-reports are accepted. IV. Using the program TST installs itself as a commodity. AmigaOS 2.04+ is needed. TST accepts the following keywords if called from the shell: CX_HOTKEY: which hotkey is used to invoke the program. Default: 'lcommand s' COMPRESSION: Use this keyword to switch XPK-compression on. Default: off COMPRESSOR: put the name of the XPK-compressor behind this keyword. Default: NUKE The same keywords are used in the workbench's tooltypes. Printing (an area of) the screen: 1. Invoke TST 2. Select the screen to print from the list If you want to mark an area: 3. Press 'Select' 4. Move the crosshair to the left upper edge of the area, press LMB and hold it 5. Move the box to the lower right edge of the area, release LMB 6. Select Mode 'Print' 7. Select 'OK' 8. Put TST to the background by selecting 'Hide' Saving (an area of) the screen: 1. Invoke TST 2. Select the screen to save from the list To mark an area: See section 'Printing' 6. Select Mode 'Save' 7. Select 'OK' 8. Choose name and path for the file to create 9. Leave filerequester with 'OK' 10. Put TST to the background by selecting 'Hide' Removing a screen: 1. Invoke TST 2. Select screen from the list 3. Select Mode 'Remove' 4. Press OK 5. If you press the left gadget in the requester which appears now, the selected screen will be removed. DANGER OF CRASHING!!! 6. Put TST to the background by selecting 'Hide' Changing the palette: Oh, c'mon! You should be clever enough to find that out yourself. :-) Other Gadgets: New List: Update the list of screens Information: About the selected screen and its properties Menues: Project: About... the program Hide program to background Quit switches on the coffee-machine :-) XPK/ Choose method of compression or switch compression off REMEMBER: A PROGRAM WORTH USING IS A PROGRAM WORTH SPREADING. V. History V1.22 10.2.1993 Bugfixes : Previous fixes were only executed when not XPK'ing. OUCH! V1.21 27.1.1993 Bugfixes : Removed bug in ILBM-detection (& <-> &&) V1.2 17.1.1993 Bugfixes : Using Public Screens didn't work (reported by von Ch.Teuber) Works with Interleaved Screens (OS3.0) (reported by Ch.Teuber and M.Schulze) Extensions: full support of 24-bit-colors Optionally closes Window when selecting an area to work on. (R U satisfied, Ch.Teuber?) V1.1 9.1.1993 Bugfixes: partial support of 24-bit-colors save-path was ignored Screen with the TST-Window wasn't fetched to front after selecting an area Extensions: If no area was selected, the whole screen is used (suggested by Ch.Teuber) TST opens on public screens (Ch.Teuber) TST goes to background when saving, so it doesn't appear on the saved picture (Ch.Teuber) V1.01 7.1.1993 Bugfixes: minor bug in SaveIFF loop-counter for colors changed to UWORD temporary file was deleted even if packing wasn't possible V1.1 6.1.1993 First release VI. Incompatibilities TST is not compatible with the well known PD-Program Turbolayers. This is not my fault, since TurboLayers doubles the BitMap->BytesPerRow-value which causes the saver to save garbage. VII. Credits Thanx to Ch.Teuber, M.Schulze and M.Balzer for support.
