This directory contains files which are useful to authors who are submitting
papers in electronic format to the AMS for publication.  The files in this
directory are themselves packages of several files, named according to 
publication code and type of TeX the author wishes to use (AMS-TeX 2.1 or
AMS-LaTeX 1.1).

(NOTE:  The packages listed here have all been updated to work with the
latest versions of AMS-TeX (2.1) and AMS-LaTeX (1.1).  They will not
function with previous versions of these products.  AMS-TeX 2.1 can be
obtained by FTP from the e-MATH directories /ams/amstex and /ams/amstex/doc.
AMS-LaTeX 1.1 can be obtained by FTP from the e-MATH directories /ams/amslatex,
/ams/amslatex/doc, /ams/amslatex/inputs, and /ams/amslatex/fontsel.

If you are unable to upgrade and require a version of one of the packages
listed below which is compatible with previous versions of AMS-TeX and/or
AMS-LaTeX, contact the Technical Support group at the address below to
check on the availability of a previous version.)

The filenames in this directory are constructed by taking the publication
code, and adding the extension ".pkg-" + type of TeX.  For example, the
AMS-LaTeX package for the DIMACS series would be called: dimacs.pkg-amslatex
(Note that the filenames contain only lowercase characters.)

Both AMS-LaTeX and AMS-TeX packages contain .STY, .TEX, and .CHECKLIST files.
The .STY file is a LaTeX or AMS-TeX documentstyle file to be used for papers
in the publication.  You should include the name of this .STY file in the
\documentstyle statement at the beginning of your paper.  Please note that
both the AMS-LaTeX and the AMS-TeX .STY files make use of some additional
files which are distributed as part of the normal AMS-LaTeX and AMS-TeX
distributions.  Specifically, AMS-TeX files require the use of AMSPPT.STY,
and AMS-LaTeX files need AMSART.STY (the monograph style requires
AMSBOOK.STY).

The .TEX file is a sample paper using macros defined in the .STY file.
Before preparing your own paper you should TeX this file and print it to
test the macros, and to get instructions for their use.

The .CHECKLIST file should be printed and used to help you avoid the most
common problems encountered in preparation of papers for submission.

Once your paper has been accepted for publication, please send the .TEX file
to our Internet address: PUB-SUBMIT@MATH.AMS.COM.  When you send the file
please be sure to include a message that identifies both the publication
series and, in the case of proceedings volumes, the editor of the volume.
