3D.ILLUSION.IFF24.readme WHAT? ----- This is yet another experiment with 3-D illusion WITHOUT any glasses. The green and red colours in the picture have noting to do with anaglyph glasses but rather to give the rough idea to have several surfaces in the picture at the same time. This experimental picture was drawn to figure out the fact that whether it is possible to fool brains to see more than one surfaces on top of each other without any glasses or not. However the answer is: Yes it is possible. The next experiment should be same with animation, then shading with single colour, then with modified colour pictures depth information added to them afterwards and then animating these to add motion to colour pictures. These have not yet tried to my knowledge. If it works, then perhaps some day we may see 3-D TV-transmissions without glasses propably on HDTV. HOW DO I SEE IT? ---------------- Stare at the front of the picture for a while and try to match each eye to the background pattern so that none of the eyes look at the same point and consentrate Yourself first in the red pattern to figure out what is in and after that the green pattern should be obvious. Yes it is possible to see the same picture 'behind' the screen as I tried it at the first place but this has a minor drawback ; that is, the density of the surface of the 3-D object looks inhomogenous. I NEED MORE HELP than that? --------------------------- Try to put the finger between your nose and screen to get started with the pattern matching. The distance from your nose (or eyes to be exact) to your fingertip should be approximately 2/3 of the total distance from your nose to the screen. At the first time this pattern matching could be very time consuming learning experience. Please be patient, I have learned to figure out almost any this kind of picture at 10 seconds. If You learn to see the shape of 3-D object - Congratulations - Your analog computer has solved thousands of linear equations at a glance. If You still haven't found anything from the picture, are You sure that You are not colour blind. If you are the picture will sure look blurred. Then it may help to change the green colour to blue forexample. WHAT ABOUT THE IDEA? -------------------- Yet I've only seen variations of 2-D surfaces bent over 3rd dimension but in this picture one may comprehend 2 surfaces on top of each other. The green surface should be comprehended to be nearer to the observer than the red one and both of them should lie between the observer and screen. EXPLANATION ----------- Brain's are fooled to see surfaces in diffent distances by altering the noise-like pattern from left side to right side. Each colour has it's own altering surface-function. The picture is shimmered at near the edges in order to minimize the screen border disturbing effect in stereoscopic sighting. DO NOT! ------- Do not store the picture in jpeg or other lossy-compression formats. It may have drastic downgrading effects. Do not scale the picture smaller, it may loose information. You may still have to convert it from 24-bit to 8-bit or 4-bit resolution with some utility programs not provided herein. DO! --- Keep this readme file always with the picture, please.
