- Oliver Kastl of Elaborate Bytes has now released a4000_atapi.device 
  version 8.2. This device allows you to use an ATAPI CD-ROM drive with
  the A4000 or A4000T embedded IDE controller. A4000 users can use the very
  popular and cheap CD-Roms for PCs without any major disadvantages against
  SCSI CD-Rom drives. The major advantage for A4000 users without a SCSI 
  controller is, that they don't have to buy one. The major advantage for
  A4000 users with a SCSI controller is, that they have an unused IDE port
  in their machine anyway and SCSI CD-Roms are usually more expensive.
  The device maps SCSI-II commands to ATAPI packets using the standard 
  Commodore HD_SCSICMD interface, so any "CD-Rom specific" programs 
  (Multisession Filsystems, Audio Players and Photo-CD readers) designed 
  for SCSI-II CD-Roms should work.
  This has been tested with CacheCDFS, PlayCD, CD32-Emulator and PhotoWorX.
  The device is fully interrupt driven and will use only a small amount of
  CPU time for the transfer. A demo version is uploaded to AmiNet.
  The new version 8.2 features:

  - Intermediate fixes - mainly to the Chinon OEM version
  - Revised to fully comply with ATAPI 1.2 specs. All ATAPI devices which
    comply with Atapi 1.2 should work, including non CD-Roms (e.g. Tape
    devices). Removed Elitegroup Vertos from compatibility list - this 
    one doesn't comply with ATAPI specs 1.2.
  - Merged a4000_atapi and a1200_atapi to a single atapi.device Checking,
    which devices are connected to the IDE port changed again -this should
    fix the reported problems of "FindCD" hangs.
  - Mitsumi FX-300 and old FX-400 apparently hangs. This is a bug in the
    Mitsumi firmware. Added a workaround for this. CD-Rom can be reset on
    Open, if the device is opened with device flags 1.
  - Emulates SCSI 6 byte Mode Sense / Mode Select. This is important for
    some SCSI Audio players and Shapeshifter to work properly.
