Icon Deluxe Copyright 1995, by Brian Tietz --------------------------------------------------------------------------- WHAT AMIGAS ICON DELUXE WORKS ON: I think IconDeluxe works on all Amigas, but I am using a 68000 A500 with 2.04 to write Icon Deluxe, so I can't be sure... I would REALLY appreciate it if I could get some feedback email from people with the following configurations, especially with enforcer, so that I can say for sure that it runs on all Amigas: 68030's, 2.04/2.1 68040's, 2.04/2.1 A500, A1000, A2000, A2500, A3000; 3.x A1200 A4000 And if it fails for anyone, on any system configuration, please let me know so I can get it working for everybody. I can be reached at btietz@ucsd.edu, or via snail mail at: Brian Tietz 9256 A Regents Rd. La Jolla, CA 92037 USA Thanks in advance! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- INSTALLATION: IconDeluxe can be installed using the install icon. However, you must have Commodore's Install utility for the script to work. If you don't have the Install utility, you can still install Icon Deluxe by placing the files IconDeluxe and IconDeluxe.guide wherever you want them (I recommend SYS:Tools). You must have AmigaGuide or MultiView for online help to work. If not, you can open a shell and type: MakeLink SYS:Utilities/AmigaGuide C:More or replace C:More with your favorite text viewer. If you do this, you'll probably want to use a text editor to strip out the AmigaGuide instructions. I could've done it myself, but most people have AmigaGuide, and I didn't want to increase the distribution archive size. If you don't feel like doing it, and need the text version, just say so in your registration and I'll put the plain text docs on your disk. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE "Some icons" ICONS: These are just sample icons of ones I like and use. You need to set the workbench to 16 colors and the palette to the preset one that's saved in the directory for them to look good. Even though most of them are disk icons, the type is currently set to project to allow them to be loaded. If you want to use them, load it, set the type back to disk, then save as Disk.info in the volume you want to have this icon. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- COPYRIGHT: The registered version is copyrighted and may not be distributed, so please do not allow it to be pirated. Ten dollars isn't much, so anybody who wants or uses it can afford it. If you use IconDeluxe, please register and encourage me to write more cheap but high-quality Amiga software. The public version is freely distributable, but modification of the program or distribution of any modified version is prohibited and constitutes a violation of the copyright. The public version used to be full-featured and was not "cripple-ware," but I found out that someone had cracked it to remove the save delay, and distributed it. I was only asking $10 to start with, and I never thought that anybody could be that cheap! Because of this, I have been forced to cripple the public version so that it can no longer save. I hate crippled demos and didn't want to do this. That's why I put the save delay in the first place: I wanted this program to be available to everybody so that people who like the program but don't want to spend $10 can use it, but have to live with the delay. Those who do register can enjoy the program without the delay. I apologize for this change, and I realize that this only results from the actions of a few people, but I can't tolerate that happening at all. Piracy hurts everybody. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- REGISTERING ICON DELUXE: If you like Icon Deluxe, then you can reward me for the hundreds of hours I spent writing it by sending a small contribution of $10 (or equivalent in other currencies), to cover the cost of floppies and postage for two or three mailings and so I can get a little something back for all my work. If you have done so already, I would like to express my thanks to you, as that $10 fed me for a week. If you have not registered, think of all the time I spent writing this for you, and how nice it would be to help out a poor student who's struggling to get by. In return, I will send you the registered version of Icon Deluxe, which does not open the about window at startup as does the public version. I'll also send updates to all registered users for bug fixes and added features. For bug reports or feature requests, I can be reached on the internet at btietz@ucsd.edu. I used to offer the source code for $5, but after the piracy incident described above, I am no longer offering the source code. Send cash, check, or money order payable to Brian Tietz. Non-U.S. currency is fine, just send the equivalent amount using current exchange rates. Brian Tietz 9256 A Regents Rd.
