    Legend has it that many years ago, deep in the Louisiana bayou, a
beautiful young girl named Isabella fell in love with a handsome
highwayman.  The highwayman loved her true, and promised to take her away
with him.
    "Wait for me tonight by the swamp, Isabella", he said, "and I will come
for you.  Lose not heart if I be late, for the roads are dark and winding,
and even a highwayman can lose his way...  Wait for me."
    Isabella promised her lover she would wait until the end of time if
need be.
    That night, Isabella, true to her word, waited for her highwayman.
 Alas, her lover, accosted by the local constable, was shot dead on his way
to meet his true love.  Isabella was never seen again.
    Some say that she waits still, wandering the bayou in an eternal search
for her dead highwayman.  Some claim to have seen her, voluptuous, yet vile
and corrupt.  Moss hangs from her like the raiment of some long dead queen,
and her eyes glitter like those of the alligator or snake.
    If you should find yourself beside the swamp late on a moonlit night,
tarry not.  For Isabella may mistake you for her lost love, and come wading
through the brackish water, beckoning for you to join her.

    Isabella was drawn with Deluxe Paint in 640 x 400 hires, 16 color mode.
This painting is intentionally dark and moody.  I would very much like for
you to see it as it is intended to be seen, so make this simple
monitor adjustment.  After a suitable warm-up time, load a picture that
contains a fairly large area of solid black.  Such a picture can easily be
created in Dpaint.  View this picture while adjusting the BRIGHTNESS
control on your monitor so that the black area turns to a deep grey.  Now
adjust backwards until the grey JUST DISAPPEARS!  The black level of your
monitor should now be adjusted properly to view Belit, and all other Amiga
graphics!  You may find some things in your favorite pictures you have been
missing!  :)
