Introduction

PicoChecker is the program I wrote enabling me to determine if my Piccolo
card was in Zorro-II or Zorro-III mode. As well as showing the version of
the EGS library and some useful system information.  The program has been
written to display this information in a way attractive to the user. Also
it can be fully controlled by either the mouse or the keyboard.

Although this program was initially developed to support my Piccolo card,
I have added some support for the GVP Spectrum card. But since I have had
no hands-on experience with that one, I cannot extend any warranties that
it will actually perform on any systems containing that card.

Using PicoChecker

The CLI command synopsis for PicoChecker is:

Alternatively you can click on the PicoChecker icon.

After starting up the program will open a window containing the following
information:

In the left part of the window:

A heading of either 'Piccolo' or 'Spectrum',  depending on which of these
cards it found.

The first box contains information on the Zorro mode the display card has
been jumpered for. It will display either Zorro-II or Zorro-III. If there
is another value displayed, please contact me.

The second box contains the amount of memory mounted on the display card.

And the third box contains the version number of the EGS library.

In the right part of the window:

The first box the version number of the Kickstart in your Amiga is shown.
It is shown in the format xx.yyy where the xx part is the version and yyy
part the revision number. The version can be interpreted as follows:

31 - AmigaDOS 1.0
32 - AmigaDOS 1.1
33 - AmigaDOS 1.2
34 - AmigaDOS 1.3
35 - AmigaDOS 1.4
36 - AmigaDOS 1.9 (Found in some very early Amiga 3000's.)
37 - AmigaDOS 2.0
38 - AmigaDOS 2.1 
39 - AmigaDOS 3.0 (Found in the Amiga 1200/4000)
40 - AmigaDOS 3.1 (Found in the CD³²)
 
In the second box the version of the Workbench is shown. The format of it
is identical to that of the Kickstart above.

Finally, the third box contains the processor-type present in your Amiga.
If an MMU was detected, the suffix /MMU is added to the processortype. As
an example an 68030 means an EC030,  like in a number of GVP cards, while
68030/MMU means a full 68030 with MMU like the A2630 or A3000.  

This program will bring up a requester when it cannot find a Piccolo or a
Spectrum card. It will, however display all other information it can, and
leave other fields blank or '-unknown-'.

PicoChecker was written in SAS C 6.3 and the GUI was created using JaBa's
GadToolsbox. The icon was snatched from the standard EGS icon (sorry Uli)
and slightly adapted...
