Welcome to the wonders of Xv..! ================================= Requirements: =============== AGA/OS3.0 is recommended but it may actually work with WB2.04/ECS. This program uses MUI! So it is safe to assume that you should have it installed before you try to run Xv! (2.2 as found on aminet) 2meg chip+2meg fast and AGA/OS3.0 and a faster than 68000 cpu is likely to make xv much more usable. Using a gfx board that displays the workbench may compensate for no AGA. (use -usepub (and -nochunky if needed)). The chunky stuff also needs 68020 or better so 68000 users will have to use -nochunky too. It is compiled for 68000 and standard math library. Loading of postscript files needs datatypes.library (os3.0) the postscript datatype and a post.library. If running from cli it may be worth setting stack to 10000. (or 20000 to be on the safe side).(nostackcheck may cause problems otherwise) Responsibility?: ================== If the program should crash and destroy 10 years of work on your hard-disk you may ask for a refund of your contribution. Any other responsibility for any result of running this program is not granted. (ie. no responsibility whatsoever..) It may be adviceable to run enforcer on your first run of xv, you may have received a version compiled for another cpu which may crash your machine totally unless you are guarded against it! Documentation: ================ Documentation is currently limited to the xvdocs.ps that is found in the original archive. (available on a ftp'site near you..). and it is 7mb! (ok. 600-700k compressed) some hints: ============= on the image screen: right-alt or ctrl and mousebutton-press will zoom the image in or out. right mousebutton and drag will make a crop rectangle. buttonpress will show the value of the pixel under the mousepointer (on the xv control panel or as current edit color in the coloreditor) +arrows will change the size of crop rectangle. arrows will move the crop rectangle. +arrows crops the image by 1 line or row from the edge. changes screen back to workbench. use -display (or setenv xv/display ) to make Xv open on this public screen if you also use -usepub (previously -usewb). A lot of environt variables are possible to set that Xv will check on startup. These can be found in the documentation (the xvdocs.ps file). Send John Bradley $25 and you will get a nice bound copy! Some of these may actually work! Try 'setenv xv/autoRaw 1' to force Xv to use raw mode when loading images. Useful since the smoothing of images may take some time! ('setenv xv/usepub 1' and 'setenv xv/nochunky 1' will also work) Its also memory demanding! If your gfx card doesn't like the chunky stuff you can turn it off by using -nochunky. (You'll know this is the problem if you only get a empty window/screen). Also read the 'history' file since some info here may differ. Contribution policy: ====================== It isn't stated in the introduction requester what a contribution of $5-$10 gives other than my continued support for the amiga version of Xv. But you also get an optimized version of the current version (68020-40 with or without fpu).(If not by e-mail, add $5 for p&p). Higher amounts ($25+) will give you all versions in the mail as they are finished. (this can't be done unless I can reach you by e-mail since I will soon use up that amount in p&p). -- Since contributions fail to rush in (..) this version will stay the last version until I will need two hands to count the contributions! I guess the program is bound to end up by someone who find it really great and worth a contribution.. (sooner or later..) Thanks to: ============ Morten Eriksen for his chunky to planar stuff. Great stuff! Colin Dalton, Per Espen Hagen and Nils Sudman for betatesting. TP
