TabEd

TabEd is a guitar tablature creater.  The tab it creates is in the form of an
ASCII text file (as is common in alt.guitar.tab).

TabEd is my attempt at such a program.  It is in an unfinished state but it
may be useful to you.  You don't have to use it (I probably won't).

TabEd requires at least WorkBench 2 to run (I think).  I've only tested it on
my vanilla A1200.

TabEd can be run by double clicking on its icon or typing TabEd at the shell.
This results in a window containing several buttons and text gadgets being
displayed.


Entering Tab
============

Six string gadgets are arranged vertically in the middle of this window.  These
display the current symbols on each of the tablature staffs.  On each side of
the string gadgets are text gadgets which show the symbols to the left and 
right of the current symbol.

Symbols can be entered into the string gadgets by activating the string gadget
(by clicking in it with the mouse) and typing the symbol.

Acceptable symbols are:

                            Empty   -       A blank in the tab
                            0 to 24 -       Fret numbers
                            B       -       Bend
                            H       -       Hammer On
                            P       -       Pull Off
                            \       -       Slide Down
                            /       -       Slide Up
                            VV      -       Vibrato


Anything else is ignored.

To advance to the next position the button containing the arrow pointing right
(-->) can be clicked.  The arrow button pointing in the opposite direction 
(<--) can be clicked to move to the previous symbols.

Clicking the insert button (near the top left of the window) will result in a
blank position being created before the current position.  This is useful if
you have missed some symbols.

Clicking the delete button (near the top right of the window) will result in
the current position being deleted and all symbols to the right being shifted
left to take its place.


Loading And Saving
==================

The current tab can be saved by clicking the save button.  This will bring up
the asl file requester allowing the filename to be specified.  Clicking OK will
save the tab.

Tab can be loaded by clicking the load button.  This also brings up the Asl 
file requester allowing the file name to be specified.  Clicking OK will load
the file.  Be careful because files are not checked for validity - attempting
to load a file which is not a TabEd file will have unpredictable results.


Generating The ASCII File
=========================

To generate the ASCII tab file, click on the Gen. button.  This brings up the
Asl file requester again allowing you to enter the file name to save the tab 
as.

TabEd produces bare tab files.  It is left up to you to put things like the
name of the song into the file.


The Other Buttons
=================

The other buttons containing the special tab symbols do not perform any
function.  At the moment they are there to remind you of the symbols.


Other Stuff
===========

There should be a couple of files along with TabEd in this archive:

        stairway.ted    -   A TabEd file which can be loaded into TabEd
        stairway.tab    -   An ASCII tab file produced by TabEd



TabEd is in an unfinished state.  It sure could use some work (e.g. cut and
paste, ...), however, I don't know if I will have much time to do any further
work on it.

TabEd is public domain, you can do what you want with it.  Just don't blame me
if it does any undesirable things to your system, i.e. if TabEd causes you to
lose any data, damage your hardware, burns your house down, etc. don't blame
me.

Also, I accept no responsibility for any spelling mistakes or gramatical errors
in this file.  My Amiga should be able to spot these things.  That's why I
bought it in the first place, right?
