Watts.Volts.Ampres For this we first look at Ohm's law it goes like this..... Volts = Current x Ampres You can calculate the current, the Voltage or the resistance of a circuit using the formula called Ohm's law. To use this you need to know the values of two of the quantities. So if we say 6 volts divide by 1.5 Ohms the answere would be 4 amps or 9 volts divide by 15 Ohms the answere would be 0.6 amps or 600 ma The other way around is to say.... 4 amps times 1.5 Ohms gives 6 volts....try it with a calculator or 0.6 times 15 Ohms gives 9 volts... There as you might have seen Analogue metres (a moving needle) type or Digital perhaps a L.C.D display or L.E.D type... Look at the IFF 'Digital' and 'Analogue' to see a better description. How is a Analogue metre made... Well inside is a coil wire near a magnet, and on this wire is a needle attached to it. So when a current is applied to it this creates a magnetic field which moves the needle. Digital metres are another story, they rely on silicon chips for a readout Volts such as the domestic mains carries Amps 240v with 13amps is a bit on the lethal side, so DO NOT TAMPER. Volts on there own are harmless you can have 250 volts with 1ma (milliamp) by rights this would not kill any one but if you had say 25 volts carrying something like 50 amps then kiss it goodbye, because this sort of ampage with this sort of voltage is dangerous. So volts on there own and volts carrying amps are two different things. What is the difference between a Analogue and digital metre.... Well realy a digital metre providing it is calibrated properly is far more accurate than a analogue. So if you are in work involving precise accuracy then people will most always use a digital something like a 'Fluke'. These days digital metres are used in so many application such as thermometers, car stereos, CB. radios, Amateur radio, watches,calculators you name it they have it built in. Of course you still can get analogue metres in a lot of things but the more digital the better and cheaper they will become. But do not be mislead, digital are only accurate if calibrated properly like anything else, if not then the readout is of little use. ..... END .....
