A group of 30 islands (eight
of them inhabited), lying at
the eastern end of the Grand
Bahama Bank, north of Haiti,
the Turks and Caicos are
composed of low, flat
limestone terrain with scrub,
marsh and swamp providing
little agriculture. Tourism
has recently overhauled
fishing, chiefly lobster, as
the main industry. Offshore
banking facilities are also
expanding.
