This shot of an Air Sea Rescue Wessex helicopter was taken during an exercise between coastguards and the rescue service. We arrived on the scene at Flamborough by accident to find hundreds of people watching. Many had cameras, but I only saw a few shots taken. What a waste of an opportunity. I believe in shooting plenty of film if the subject presents itself. Here I used a full slide film and two mono films. Results have been used on TV news, in magazines and in competitions. In the latter case a £50 prize camera from the manufacturer of the lens used - a 70/210 Series 1 Vivitar. As an aside, this can seem unfair. For that £50, Vivitar used this picture in a series of magazine promotions. That should have been worth hundreds of pounds to me - but the rules said winning shots could be used as the promoters wished for no further payment !
