The RAC rally. Again, a lot of interest taking the pictures, but
little 'sale' value as so many exist. Several were used as
publicity locally and on TV from my efforts, but I was too good !

My first attempt was when I was asked to act as an extra official
photographer in a local heat that was to use our works land. A
great opportunity.

That meant that I wore an official jacket and could go where I
liked. It also meant possible danger, and I had to keep my wits
about me.

Expecting great speed and a lot of blurred results, plus low
light in November, I used two cameras - one loaded with 400 ISO
slide film uprated to 800 ISO, and the other with mono film, also
rated at 800 ISO.

The results were almost all dead sharp. TOO SHARP. Many of the
cars looked parked and the drivers names can be clearly read on
the negs. and slides.

There were virtually no real action shots with mud flying and
cars airborne.

As an aside, this is one of the few areas that have resulted in
rip offs from magazines. I sent work to two very well known
rallying magazines and BOTH failed to acknowledge my work in any
way despite my sending an SAE as I always do. Phone and letters
to them were also ignored.
