INSTRUCTIONS

Select an option from the main menu with the mouse.

The BACKGROUND option provides some background text.

The THEORY option provides text on opening theory.

The PLAY option lets you examine different opening lines which are stored in
the library.

The NOTATION option explains how to use chess notation. 

READ TEXT gives you the option to read any of the textfiles on any of the
major openings.

QUIT is self explanatory. You can also quit the program at any stage by
selecting QUIT from the pull-down menu.

You can return to the MAIN MENU at any stage by selecting NEW from the
pull-down menu.
You can then examine another variation.

After PLAY is selected the starting position will appear and you will be 
given a number of possible continuations. 

By selecting one of these continuations the game will continue and the move 
that was picked will be played. Only variations currently in the opening 
library will be displayed as choices. By selecting choices in this manner 
you can examine different opening variations which are stored in the 
library.

The move number will be given, in addition to whose move it is. 
At the end of a variation, an opening name or comment may be given.

You can add moves to the tree by clicking on a piece, then clicking on
the square it moves to. 

While playing through opening variations, different options can be chosen
by clicking on a different button.

You can return to the start of the current variation by selecting SAME.

The board can be flipped by selecting FLIP.

You can retract the last move by selecting BACK.

SAVE writes the last variation you added to disk. If you add a variation
without saving the previous one, then the previous one will be
overwritten.
