INSTRUCTIONS The main menu gives the following options: BACKGROUND -This contains some background text about the program. NOTATION -Contains some text on chess notation. NEW GAME -You can record a game, with or without notes. PLAY MASTER GAME - This allows you to replay/edit one of the stored famous games. PLAY OWN GAME allows you to replay/edit a game that you have stored. QUIT -An alternative to the pull-down menu. Enter details for a new game by clicking in the appropriate box. Click on DONE when finished. If you choose PLAY MASTER game or PLAY OWN GAME the details of the games which are currently stored will appear on the screen. You may choose to display only the games which include a specific detail by typing in a "search-string". You can search for games by white player,black player,event,year,opening or any other details which are stored. You can type in a word, part of a word or several words. For example, you could list all the games which involved a SICILIAN. All game details which include the word "sicilian" will be displayed. If you press the return key without typing in anything, all games will be displayed. Select one of these games by clicking on it or move the slider gadget. Selecting FLIP will reverse the board. When a game starts, a bar will appear in the left hand window. Selecting NEXT/PREV will take you through the game. Clicking on the bar will advance the game to the corresponding point. Any time you are playing over a game, you can add to or alter the moves. Click on the piece you want to move and the square you want to move it to. If you enter a move in the middle of a game, all the remaining moves will be moved ahead. If you insert an odd number of moves, you will need to delete a move, else one player will have two moves in a row. If you make a mistake it is possible to correct it. If you selected the wrong piece you can cancel the selection by selecting DELETE. You may even reverse through the whole game. Selecting REST will delete all remaining moves. If you want to add notes at any stage, select the WRITE button. The mouse pointer will disappear and you can add up to 5 lines of notes. You can edit a line of text with the backspace, delete and the left/right cursor keys. Press the return key to complete a line. You may add written notes to as many or as few moves as you wish. To end writing notes for a particular move, press the return key without typing anything and the mouse pointer will reappear. To finish recording a game select the SAVE button. NEW -You can return to the main menu at any stage by selecting NEW from the pull-down menu. QUIT -You can quit at any stage by selecting QUIT from the pull-down menu.
