S2 P1 EP ¥2¤6A1200 - THE WINNER?¥1¤1 With the release of the Amiga 1200 Commodore hopes to win back some users from both PC and consoles, but will they succeed? Will the A1200 be as great success as the C-64 and the A500 became when they were introduced to the public? ¤9Well, if you look at the cost-related side, you'll see that the A1200 is the first computer Commodore has released since 1985, when the Amiga was born, that an ordinary user can afford (A500+ and A600 not counted while they are A500's in different shapes). Who could afford the A3000 when it first reached the market, not to talk about the A4000. A very impressive machine, but also a very expensive piece of hardware. The A1200 is really a reduced A4000. It takes use of the ð new AGA-circuits, which finally can beat the PC when it comes to colours on screen, 256 in normal mode, and 256000 in HAM8. The price IS very resonable in comparison with the hardware. ¤1So, there's no problem then, or? But that's exactly what there is. Most people who buy an Amiga does it for the games. That's why Commodore has lost so many buyers to the consoles. The software houses hesitates when it comes to converting games and programs to the A1200. The market is not big enough they say. And if there's no difference between the games and programs on the A500 and the A1200, many users don't buy a new computer. This holds especially for parents to kids who only use their computers for game-playing, and it's sad to say that those are one of the major groups of Amiga-owners. Ð ¤9So come on! If you wan't to keep the Amiga alive and make the A1200 as widely used as the A500, buy one! Ð
