~~3Hyper Zone, 70 Donald Drive, Chadwell Heath, Romford, Essex. RM6 5DU Completely new look Hyper Zone from this issue, with guest reviews and a brand new tips section compiled by our very own music maestro and game player extrordainaire Ben Coffer. Games news this issue seems to be dominated by the arrival of the CD-32, if CD games being promised and delivered by most of the leading Amiga software houses. First out is Pinball Fantasies, the revamped version with AGA graphics, enhanced music soundtracks, and generally improved loveliness all round. Diggers seemed to arrive with more of a thud than a boom, sub-standard Lemmings clone. Biggies yet to arrive include Zool 2 and Jurassic Park, which hopefully will show off the full capabilities of this wonderful machine. Syndicate just escaped being reviewed this issue (oh dear lack of funds came into play again), but looks totally wonderful and should fingers crossed be reviewed (albeit a bit late) next issue. So this issue we will have to console ourself with a reader review, yes and it isn't exactly new but check out the review anyway. ~~4Superfrog - Team 17, priced £26.99 [review by Richard, rs1am1] It's not particularly new, you've probably already bought it, and finished it, and it can't exactly be termed as groundbreaking. So why should I bother reviewing it? Because it's Superfrog, that's why. Not another platform game I hear you cry. No, it's not just another platform game. Oh alright it is just another platform game, but it's a damn good one. One thing hits you upon loading this game, except the rather amusing cartoon introduction by the lovely and decidedly fluffy Eric Schwartz, and the nicely pleasant theme music and the general slickness of everything: it's not going to break any records. It's not new but it is challenging. Boy is it challenging. You won't be putting this one down until it's finished (unless you have to write a review by a copy date that is). But what of the game itself? Well, if you haven't guessed by now, you control Mr Superfrog (surprise surprise). You have to guide him through five different theme worlds (ice, fun park, spooky castle - the usual) which are all vaguely connected by an extremely tenuous plot involving circuses, time machine and other plot devices. Who cares if the links hold less water than the leading brand of kitchen towel in our conclusive tests, the game's the important thing. You have to jump, run, bounce, kill nasties, collect coins and fruit, avoid traps, find exits and be generally very super about everything. Not physically you, you understand, but virtually speaking. At the end of each sub-level (four per world) your score is calculated. You can then either collect that score or gamble it on a fruit machine (something you'll usually find yourself doing). This is an interesting diversion and provides a useful rest between levels. It also provides access to level codes which are vital if you're going to complete the game. When it's going to decide to give you those codes is pretty random, and you'll usually find yourself battling through a level only to find that you're going to have to do it again, which can be frustrating to say the least. It'll give you a code before you give up though, cunning eh? It's worth getting to the end of world 5 in the end because the fun doesn't finish there. It's all slick, polished, highly playable and great fun. I'd recommend it to anyone, even those who, like me, can't stand anything even vaguely hedgehog like. ~~3HYPER-LARGE-TIPS ZONE [With Ben, bc1am1] ~~2---------------------------------------- This is the new part of the tips section you may or may not have been waiting for. It is for all formats of Digital Disk. I, [cb1am1], will be covering complete solutions for various games that take a while to complete. The tips are gonna be spread over a number of issues of Digital Disk. The first three games I will cover are the following: SPACE QUEST CHAPTER 1 : The Sarien Encounter SPACE QUEST CHAPTER 2 : Vohaul's Revenge HITCH HIKER's GUIDE TO THE GALAXY After I have finished with those three I will just have to see what else comes along. Since we review different games every issue, there are bound to be some that are big and require a lot of gaming hours before the player reaches completion. Therefore, I don't think this Hyper-Large-Tips section will be too short of games to cover. Anyway, let us begin with the first in my series... The complete solution to : ~~6SPACE QUEST CHAPTER 1 : The Sarien Encounter ~~5-------------------------------------------- I will write what the player's score should be at various points in the game next to the appropriate hint. That way you can use them as checkpoints, in other words, if you haven't got the score that is written by a particular hint at that point in the game, you will know that you may have done something wrong somewhere along the way. ---- 1.
