Game Control ------------ November 7, 1992 Game Control is a simple database-type program that allows you keep a record of games and their associated high-scores, passwords, and notes. In addition, you can assign a time period and genre to each game as a way of classification. Setting up Game Control ----------------------- First, copy the supplied font into your fonts: directory. Then simply double-click the workbench icon to start the program. (NOTE: Game Control is power-packed, so it will take a few seconds to decompress and run) Using it -------- The Game Control interface is very simple. Here are the basics: Clicking in the black area below the categories (Game, High-Score, Initials, Level, and Password) will let you enter data. Clicking on the left side of the time (past, present, future) or genre (simulation, adventure, action, etc.) pictures will cycle them in one direction, while clicking on the right side will cycle through in the other direction. Clicking on the add button will prompt you for a new game's name and add it to your database. The database is maintained in alphabetical order. Clicking the red arrows by the word "Game" will move through the list of games one at a time. The up and down arrows on the keyboard will also move through the list. Clicking on the red arrows by the level and password fields will move back and forth through that list. If you are at the end of the list and you hit the up arrow, the program will prompt you for a new level and password, and add it to the list. You can also use shift-up and shift-down on the keyboard to move through this list. The search button is used to locate specific games. Just supply enough of the game's title to identify it (wildcards aren't necessary), and the program will go to the first entry to contain that text. For example, to find Lemmings, type "lemm" into the search requester and Game Control would take you right to it. Click in the "Notes" area to keep notes on a given game. Each game can have its own set of notes. The Quit button will quit the program and save your changes to a file called "s:games.index." If you decide you don't want to save your changes, use the menu item called "Exit (no save)." Menu commands ------------- Clear all will do just that: clear everything and let you begin your database again. Last saved will reload the games.index file. You will lose any changes you might have made prior to this action. Exit (no save) does just that. Start of list and End of list move you to the beginning or end of your data. Delete entry will remove the currently displayed game from your database. Lastly... --------- If you use Game Control, I'm happy. A good amount of effort was put into it, and if you feel it warrants a donation, please refer to the address below. If you have any comments, questions, requests, or (no!) complaints, I'd like to hear from you (except for the complaints ;^). Have fun! Doug Crane/Element P.O.
