CommCost V2.0 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (c) Copyright William 1991 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CommCost is a little program that caculates the size of you Modem addiction by examing the log file from your communication program. CommCost will also produce a Top Ten BBS list as well as an analysis of the period that the log ran for. AT the moment the programs that are supported are : JR-Comm NComm MAXsBBS Now the first two are pretty straigh forward, but the third one may confuse some people. Well Being a MAXsBBS sysop (BTW MAXsBBS is a New Australiam BBS package and is probably the BEST package available on the Amiga Today) I decided it would be nice to count the absoulte number of call Imate Not just the one I make from JR-Comm. Setting Up: ~~~~~~~~~~~ In this section I'll simply tell you how to set up CommCost so that it will work properly. First of all start up the program and have it running in tha background while you read the documents.(Hey thats what you got and an amiga for right). STEP 1: Move the the mouse over the Cost Per Call Gadget and click the mouse once. Enter the cost per call here in cents. eg if it costs 24 cents per call then enter 24. STEP 2: Move the mouse over the Cost of Rent Gadget and click the mouse once. Enter the cost of the rent you pay on the line per period. This sould also be in cents. STEP 3: º Move the mouse over the Log File Gadget and click the mouse once. Enter the name of the log file that you wish CommCost to use. This should include both the path and the name of the log file. eg jrcomm:jrcomm.log. STEP 4: Move the mouse over the SAVE Gadget and click the mouse once. This will save a config file the the S: directory. From Now on you not have to worry about the setting the call cost, or log file unless you wish to. This log file can be edited using any text editor as long as the format is kept constant. If you change the setting and you want to return to the saved setting the click on the LOAD gadget. Usage: ~~~~~~ CommCost can be started from CLI or from Workbench. Using the program is quite easy but just incase here is some help. +----------------------------------------------------------------+ |+--------------------------------------------------------------+| ||Total Calls: Downloads: +----------------------+|| || |Cost For Calls : ||| ||Total Fido : Uploads : |Total Cost : ||| || +----------------------+|| ||BBS Name: BBS Calls: || |+--------------------------------------------------------------+| | | |+--------------+ +--------------+ +--------------+ +-------+ | |+--------------+ +--------------+ +--------------+ | | | | 1 2 9 | | | |+--------------+ +--------------+ +--------------+ | | | |+--------------+ +--------------+ +--------------+ +-------+ | | 3 4 10 5 | |+------++------+ +--------------------------------+ +-------+ | |+------++------+ +--------------------------------+ +-------+ | | 6 7 11 8 | +----------------------------------------------------------------+ GADGET 1: Show List ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This will produce a list of bbs that you have called as well as the number of times you have called it. This list will be placed and a file called CommCost_bbs.text which will be in the same directory that you started CommCost from. GADGET 2: Period Analysis ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This will open an window and tell you some interesting statistics about you log file. The best way to describe this is the tell you to try it. GADGET 3: Top Ten ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This will produce a Top Ten list of BBS that you have called and place them in a window. The BBS list will NOT be produced if this option alone is selected to get the top ten list as well as the CommCost_bbs.text then you will need to select both options. GADGET 4: MAXsBBS FIDO ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This option enables the MAXsBBS Fido scan option. For this option to work you need an assignment 'BBS:' which is the directory that you MAXsBBS.config file is in. This option will work with all version of MAXsBBS higher than 1.18. GADGET 5: OK ~~~~~~~~~~~~ After making selection of options select this to start scan GADGET 6: Load ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This will load the config file (see above) GADGET 7: Save ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This will save a new config file (see above) GADGET 8: About ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Will Bring Up the standard about window. To remove this window click on about again.. GADGET 9: Cost Per Call ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is the cost per call call (gee fancy that). It should be in CENTS so if it costs 24 cents per call then the gadger would show 24 NOT .24. At this point in time CommCost does not caculate LongDistance calles(sorry). GADGET 10: Cost of Rent ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is the rent you pay on the line per Bill period. Once again this sould be in Cents. eg. If the cost is $23.54 the the gadget will show 2354. GADGET 11: Log File ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is probably the most important gadget of the program. This the the log to be examined. this gadget shoud contain both the path AND the the name of the log file. If CommCost can not open the log file it ill not let you go on. OK there you go once you have set the options you would like then click and sit back and be AMAZED. Once everything has stoped just click on any of the gadgets in the MAIN window the close everything. Notes: ~~~~~~ Although this program will work on Any Amiga system it may look a little funny under Workbench 1.3. The program was developed under a WorkBench 2.0 machine and as you may know the colours have been changed around, all I can recommend is to change you coulouts to something like this.. 0.. BackGround Colour 1.. Blank 2.. White 3.. Highlight Colour Legal Stuff: ~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have written this program to be quite stable and I don't think you'll have any trouble with it, but I am in no way responsible for any damages cause to you system as a result of using this programme. MAXsBBS was written by Anthony Barrett. JR-Comm was written by Jack Radigan. Ncomm was written by Torkel Lodberg.
