Japanese Fonts

	This Archive contains this Doc file and a Fonts directory.  The Fonts
directory, in turn, contains all the files needed for two fonts - a Hiragana
font and a Katakana font.  The fonts are proportionally spaced and are listed
as 24 pixels high, but that includes some spacing between lines.  I've tried
them with ProWrite and they work fine.  I set them at 24 to facilitate printing
them from Pro-Write at 50% reduction to produce a "12-pitch" font.  

	I had no particular guide to assign characters to the keyboard, but one
principle I followed was to put the vowel characters on the vowel keys.  Other
characters I tried to put on keys with related sounds.  For example, the KU
kanas are located on the q key in each font, CHI is on the g, the KE is on the
k, and so forth.  Ultimately, I ran out of sounds and to a certain extent I ran
out of keys.  Fortunately, Japanese has a shortage of punctuation and I made
use of a few of the punctuation keys, although you will find a comma and a
period in the expected locations.  The maru is located on the percent key, and
the nigori is located on the quotation mark key.  There are still some open
punctuation keys available for customization or improvement of the fonts.

In Katakana the duplicated upper case characters (a,i,e,o,yo,tsu) are smaller
for use in compounds such as ti, fi, fe, etc.
