dissidents samp.library and support materials May 28, 1990 The material contained in this distribution is copyright 1989, 1990 dissidents. All items are freely redistributable and may be used in any product ( commercial or otherwise ). There are no fees, licenses, or other rabid capitalist pranks to deal with. About the only thing you can't do is sell the enclosed code, executables, or documentation ( excepting a nominal fee for media and mailing charges. ) This distribution includes about 30 files total, covering the IFF SAMP format for high quality sampled sound files. Details are found in the enclosed docs, but in brief, SAMP offers many advantages compared to the 8SVX format, including, resolutions much greater than 8 bits ( 16 bits is typical ), very high sample rates, upto 255 distinct sounds per SAMP file ( any size ), the ability to store stereo sounds and data for playback mapping, VCA and VCF settings, and more. ( Application specific data is also allowed. ) SAMP is the creation of Jeff Glatt and Jim Fiore of dissidents. It is intended for use with professional quality music software and hardware. It is also suitable for use with data aquisition systems. The samp.library allows you to add SAMP support to your programs with a minimum of fuss and bother. There are three main examples of use in C: Exam.c, samp_readout.c, and samp_writer.c. The code has been tested with both the Manx ( 3.6 ) and Lattice ( 5.05 ) compilers. Assembly language examples are also given. In order to use these examples ( executables are included ), the enclosed libraries must be copied over to LIBS: ( samp.library, requester.library. The instype.library must also be copied for the InstrumType example. ) We are interested in pushing the Amiga in the professional audio / music market, and would like to hear from folks working on projects in this area.
