Alpha Ursae Minoris, "Polaris", (once called "Alracubba" by medieval Arabs), is the current pole star. It is both a variable and a double star of 18 seconds separation. It's closest approach to the pole will be in 2102 A.D. Observing the "motion" of the stars, you'll see them "revolve" around Polaris. You may observe this with the Star Trails option.
