You should find after de-arcing files named f1 through f19.
Execute EXECUTE.ME to rename these files to their appropriate
names.   If you find any CRC errors in the de-arcing you may have
to download again.

You should find several instruments or partial instruments in
Sonix format as well as a demo tune called var1.smus.  Use
the Sonix program to play it or use the public domain Sonix
Player program (to play just type 'play var1' with the instruments
in the current directory).

The instruments are Grand Piano, Bass Violin, Steel String Guitar,
and French horn.  The French horn instrument is the only 5-octave
instrument, the others are set at octaves only to preserve
chip ram or add resolution to the instruments.  All instruments
were derived from the Ensoniq Mirage by uploading data via
system exclusive commands to the Amiga using a midi interface.

Using several single octaves for a given instrument allows me
to get a richer sound and bypass some of the IFF limitations of
5-octave instruments.  The music may look strange but it sounds good.

The piece is a transcription of the first variation of the
Symphonic Etudes by Robert Schumann.  The construction of instruments
and doing transcriptions really takes a lot of practice to get it
to sound effective.  You should see more of these in the near
future and I hope to continue to get better at it.
