Remington introduced the .222 in 1950 for the 
moderate Model 722 bolt-action, and it was a 
fateful day indeed.  The .222's appeal steadily 
grew to become, by far, the most popular .22 
centerfire round for two decades.

    The .222 Remington is considered by many to 
be the most inherently accurate cartridge to ever 
come along.  It certainly enjoyed a heyday that 
few can rival, but unfortunately, has been on the 
steeply declining side of that curve for years.

    The .222 is still a great benchrest / 
medium-range varmint cartridge, should an 
opportunity present itself at a gun show.  The 
little thing can propel a 50-grain bullet at over 
3300 fps (26" barrel).
