Some people seem to think that MPEG creation is a very difficult process which requires loads of expensive equipment. So I made one, just to prove them wrong. :-) This MPEG stream contains 100 frames from the "I Can See Clearly" video by Deborah Harry. Every 3rd frame is digitized, so the stream corresponds to 12 seconds of (PAL) video. The ideal playback rate would be 8.33 frames per second. The video was played back on a VHS deck with digital still capability, and digitized on my 2+4 Meg A1200HD with a NewTek DV-21 digitizer and Digi-Splitt RGB splitter. (The DV-21 is an old non-realtime 21 bit digitizer.) Images were saved out as IFF24s. The images were colour corrected, cropped, scaled and re-saved with ImageFX through an ARexx script, which also converted them to YUV format (address command ppmtoyuvsplit, etc). Finally, the 100 .Y, .U, and .V files were assembled into an MPEG stream by the Stanford PD MPEG encoder. This last process took about 30 minutes (running in the background while I was doing other stuff). This is a full IPB MPEG; it contains both Intraframe, Predicted, and Bothway-predicted frames.
