Many people have asked me for a preview screenshot on Usenet, so
here it is.

This screenshot was taken from my workbench.  The icons are part of a
new package called "NewIcons" by Nicola Salmoria.  The icon images were
drawn by Roger McVey and are part of the NewIcons distribution.

Basically, NewIcons is a revolutionary system patch that allows AGA
users to have up to 256 color icons on their workbench.  The colors
are dynamically allocated such that the icon images will appear in
the correct colors on any AGA machine NO MATTER WHAT THE PALETTE IS
SET TO as long as you are using enough available colors.

The icons you see in this screenshot are 16 colors, as are all in the
included set.  You can make your icons in ANY number of colors up to
256 by making an IFF brush of the icon and using the included
"injectbrush" utility that is in the package.  Thus, you could create
digitized brushes and make them into icons!

A second set of over 450 icons will be released shortly after the
NewIcons set, so there are icons for just about any application you
can imagine, and an editor for the icons is forthcoming.

What's more, NewIcons is compatible with 2.04+ systems (with a 16 color
icon limitation), and the package also includes "DefIcons", which will
show NewIcon default images for those "fake" icons that don't have .info
files attached to them.  Deficons recognizes many, many file types and
will show the appropriate icon for them.

The package comes with a convenient installer script that will
automatically install the icon images on your system without
deleting your old icons.  The images are added to the info files
transparently without ruining the old icons, and can be easily
removed as well.
