Another Workbench v 1.0 ======================= Some low-profile icons, pointers and palettes for 8-colour, high-resolution ("interlaced") Amiga Workbenches. There is even one shareware package, MagicWB, with lots of good-looking icons in its own style and palette. Many authors use the MagicWB look these days. MagicWB is nice, but I don't want to use it; partly because it is shareware, and partly because I want a more Spartan look on my Workbench - I find my own colouring scheme less straining to my eyes. These are the features of my workbench: x I want selected icons easily distinguishable on the screen. Therefore, the selected ones to appear somewhat darker. I also put a yellow spot on most of them. Sounds strange but looks OK. x The icons are rather small to save screen space. x The icons are best suited for screens with square pixels, like 640x512 or 800x600. x The icons use 8 colours. Most are grey. They go: 0 standard background grey 1 black 2 white 3 grey, darker than 5 but brighter than 4 4 dark grey 5 grey, darker than 0 6 unused 7 bright yellow for cursors etc. The MagicWB icons look reasonably good with my palette, and so does my icons MagicWB's palette. I guess I should remap my icons to a more MagicWB-compatible palette. x I use an icon for my hard disks that looks like the frontpiece of my Amiga, with the hard disk LED. x There's a special RAM disk icon. If you want to use it, you have to store it on your boot disk and copy it to RAM:Disk.info from your startup sequence. x There's a def_kick icon for unformatted and MS-DOS disks. x The def_tool and def_project icons look ugly, I admit that. x There are also a bunch of pointer images that I made. Most of them are high-res, and so need an AGA or better Amiga. I think the semi-transparent busy pointer is rather cool ;-) Use what you like and trash the rest. Jörgen
