I. What is Maint?
-----------------
Maint is especially useful to those of you who keep one or more backup
directories to make safety copies of mailbundles for example. Periodically
files will have to be removed from these directories to keep them from
overpopulating your disk(s). Maint will do this for you.
II. How do I use Maint?
-----------------------
Maint is a shell-based application and recognizes four arguments on its
commandline, two of which are mandatory. The commandline template is as
follows:
DIR/A,DAYS/N/A,FORCE/S,QUIET/S
DIR - The directory to perform maintenance on
DAYS - Maint will delete all files in
older than
FORCE - Maint will also remove delete-protected files
QUIET - Tell Maint not to produce any output beside errormessages
III. Examples
-------------
To delete all files older than one week from the directory "MAIL:Backup"
you would use:
Maint MAIL:Backup 7
If you expect any delete-protected files in this directory which you want
to delete as well you use:
Maint MAIL:Backup 7 FORCE
Please note that the switches FORCE and QUIET may appear anywhere on the
commandline (as long as you put them after "Maint" of course ;)).
If a file was forcibly deleted, Maint will notify you (if not in QUIET
mode) by saying "FORCED -> OK" instead of just "OK". If a file couldn't be
deleted for some reason Maint will say "FAILED" (or "FORCED -> FAILED" in
case of a forced deletion failure) and the reason for this failure will be
presented in readable text.
IV. Can I copy and distribute Maint?
------------------------------------
Maint is Public Domain and may be copied and distributed at wish provided
that both the executable and this document are left intact and unseparated.
This means that only the original distribution archive may be distributed.
V. Disclaimer
-------------
Maint is provided as is and thus the author takes no responsibility for any
