Short: FileType for Doom WAD's Author: amirogue@vip.cybercity.dk (rogue) Uploader: amirogue@vip.cybercity.dk (rogue) Version: 1.1 Type: biz/dopus Requires: Directory Opus 5.5+ and Amiga Doom Clones Ups, made a bu-bu, I tested V1.0 with well over 15 Wads from the Doom Master Levels CD and four or five Wads I have downloaded from ftp://cd-rom.com and it worked fine. After having uploaded the archive to Aminet i downloaded some more wads from ftp://cd-rom.com and guess what, three of them could not be recognised by the filetype, this has now been fixed, apparently the only common thing for all Wads is that they start with PWAD. So, you have Directory Opus and one of the many Doom Clones made for the Amiga, but you are tired of having to enter Shell every time you want to play a custom level, the solution is rather simple, why not have Opus doing all the dirty work for you. I have changed the way the FileType operate since V1.0 so please read the instructions. INSTRUCTIONS: If you have both the Doom1.WAD and the Doom2.WAD and you want to have them both on your system, you will have to make two directories for them, with the Doom-executable. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EXAMPLE: Games:ADoom/ADoom ADoom.Info Doom1.wad Games:ADoomII/ADoom ADoom.Info Doom2.wad ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Then you just copy the relevant FileType into :Dopus/FileTypes/ REMEMBER: If you have a GraphicsBoard and uses DoomAttack, then you have to use the FileType in the DoomAttackRTG directory, otherwise you will end up with a very corrupted screen. You can now load a Custom-Wad from any directory or device, all you have to do is open a lister to the directory and double-click on the Custom-Wad, this will put up an directory-requester where you have to select the Source-Path of your Amiga Doom-Clone. Next, Dopus will then ask you what level you what to Warp to, if there is no text-file or the text file do not say what level it replaces, see TIP at the end of this text. (Default=1 1) Dopus will then ask you what skill level you want to play at. (Default=3) In Doom there is 5 different skill levels: 1=I'M TOO YOUNG TO DIE 2=HEY, NOT TOO ROUGH 3=HURT ME PLENTY 4=ULTRA-VIOLENCE 5=NIGHTMARE Dopus should now launch Doom with the Custom Wad in place. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you have any suggestion and ideas to improve on this rather simple concept, or just want to chit-chat - feel free to send an E-Mail to amirogue@vip.cybercity.dk Have Fun Rogue '98 TIP1: If you are in doubt about what the WAD is for, or if there is no textfile or the textfile do not tell you (a common occurence in the world of PCs), you can find it by Hexreading the WAD, the level information is normally at the end. If it says E1M1 then it is for Doom. If it says MAP01 then it is for Doom II. If it do not say any of the above, it is a graphics or sound patch. Sometimes this information is in the middel of the WAD, this apparently depends on the WAD editor used by the creator. (Ahh, the wonderful world of PC Logic and one of the reasons I gave up on making two FileTypes) BONUS: I have added an Doom-ButtonBank that works in the same way as the FileType, remember to change Device: and DoomDirectory to your Device and Directory names. If you use the Req.Library, remember to add the Device name in the Requester, if the Wad is in the Directory that the requester opens. (this is not added automatically)
