Soft-Del is an /X-Tool (V3/4.++) which allows you to easily delete your old BBS-Software (and only this!) to free your HD's a little bit...:) I think every Sysop should know what I mean... Normally, you will delete the software by yourself and editing the Filelists with a texteditor (like Ced etc.)...a lame and very time-expensive work I think...to avoid hours of editing Filelists and deleting old crap, use this tool and enjoy the 'funny' work of deleting BBS-Software..hehehe... @{u}Features of Soft-Del are :@{uu} - very faaaaaaaaast...check it out and remember : It's @{b}*NO*@{ub} ASM, only C.. - @{b}Move@{ub} the deleted @{b}Filedescriptions@{ub} in other filelists if you wish... - Easy handling, all parameters could be changed at once. - Is able to create @{b}0-Byte Files@{ub} in your UL/DL-Pathes to let /X skip dupes! - @{b}Automatic Mode@{ub} with switchable FileDescription-Viewer... - @{b}Needs less memory@{ub} (1,4MB Filelisting <-> about 90kb Memory!!) - @{b}Password & Name Protected@{ub} to avoid lamer-deletings... ...and many more little features..:) 4 a complete overview read the History- file included in this archive. If U want to install it now, use either the InstallerScript which install Soft-Del automatically to your System using the CBM Installer or read the chapter @{"Install" LINK KAP_01} ! @endnode @node KAP_01 "Requirements & how to install sOFT-dEL...." @{u}First U need:@{uu} - Any Amiga-Model with Kickstart V37++ (tested on A500/600/2000/3000/4000) - A full installed and working AmiExpress V3/V4.++ - At least a FileListing containing some stuff...:) @{u}The Installation@{uu} If you have installed sOFT-dEL with the C= Installer, skip this part of the documentation.... For installing it by yourself make the following steps : @{b}1.@{ub} Copy the Icon 'DEL.INFO' to your BBS:COMMANDS/BBSCMD/ drawer. @{b}2.@{ub} Copy 'SOFT-DEL' & the icon 'SOFT-DEL.INFO' to a drawer where you stored your /X-Tools and change the ToolType in the 'DEL.INFO' to the path where sOFT-dEL could be found. @{b}3.@{ub} Edit the ToolTypes in the 'SOFT-DEL.INFO' icon to fit it to your needs. That's all for installation....now take a look to the ToolType-Definitions... @{u}ToolTypes@{uu} PASSWORD = - Here you define the PW which is needed to get access to sOFT-dEL. The Password could be up to 67 chars long. If you enter a wrong PW, sOFT-dEL writes a message in the Callerslog! NAME. = - Here you have to specify the names of the users which have access to sOFT-dEL, i.e.: NAME.1=SieGeL/tRSi NAME.2=ByteAndi/tRSi ...etc.. Always write down the names equal to the names in the user.data, otherwise you get no access ! BYTESTYLE = - Here you define in which way sOFT-dEL should mark the deleted files in the Filelisting. BYTESTYLE=DELETE - Bytesize will be overwritten with 'DELETED'. BYTESTYLE=STAR - A '*' will be append after the Bytesize. The Protectionbit will be set to 'D' in any case... @endnode @node KAP_02 "How to use sOFT-dEL ..." @{u}The Usage of sOFT-dEL@{uu} In this chapter I'll explain the usage of sOFT-dEL to give you the best working performance supplied by sOFT-dEL... When you start sOFT-dEL, it first checks if you have access to use the door. After this, you'll be asked to enter the correct PW. When you enter a wrong PW, a message will be written in the callerslog to give the Sysop an over- view of what happens on his system...:) After this, you are prompted to enter the Date sOFT-dEL should start scanning for...you could enter a Destination-Date, too. If you do so, sOFT-dEL will scan for xx to xx ...if you enter wrong numbers like 12-32-94 sOFT-dEL asks you again to enter a correct date...to quit sOFT-dEL simply press only return when asked for the Source-Date. When you have entered the dates, you get the following screen : .---------------------------------------------------------------------------. | Scan (@{"R" LINK KAP_SCAN})ange : 10-23-94 | )----------------------------------.----------------------------------------( | @{"M" LINK KAP_MOVE}) Move File-Descriptions : OFF | @{"A" LINK KAP_AUTO}) Auto-Mode for deleting files : OFF | )----------------------------------+----------------------------------------( | @{"S" LINK KAP_SHOW}) Show File-Descriptions : ON! | @{"Z" LINK KAP_ZERO}) Set found files to Zero-Bytes: OFF | )----------------------------------+----------------------------------------( | @{"1" LINK KAP_SOURCE}) Source Directory (1-9) : N/A | @{"2" LINK KAP_DEST}) Destination Directory (1-9) : N/A | )----------------------------------+----------------------------------------( | @{"P" LINK KAP_PATHES}) Search-Pathes : N/A ! | CONFERENCE: ·[·rESTRICTED!·]· | `----------------------------------^----------------------------------------' Select item to change, (@{"Q" LINK KAP_QUIT})uit Soft-Del or (@{"SPACE" LINK KAP_SPACE}) to start deleting For more informations about the single settings click on the related buttons. @{"COMPLETE DESCRIPTION OF HOW sOFT-dEL WORKS !" LINK PROGRAM_LOGIC} @endnode @node PROGRAM_LOGIC "HOW sOFT-dEL WORKS..." @{u}Programlogic of sOFT-dEL@{uu} When you start the deleting by pressing @{"SPACE" LINK KAP_SPACE}, sOFT-dEL performs the following actions: 1. First sOFT-dEL scans the @{"Source-Dir" LINK KAP_SOURCE} complete for all dates included. 2. A Offset-Table will be built an read into memory. 3. Now the checking for dates will be performed completely in memory to give you the faast speed. 4. If files where found, you where asked if they should be deleted. When you select deleting, sOFT-dEL looks in all @{"Pathes" LINK KAP_PATHES} for the given File and deletes it or - if selected - set it to @{"0-Bytes" LINK KAP_ZERO}. Now the Bytesize in the FileDir will be set to @{"DELETED" LINK KAP_01} or sOFT-dEL append a @{" * " LINK KAP_01} (if you set it so) after the Bytesize. If you use @{"AutoMode" LINK KAP_AUTO}, all actions where automatically performed by sOFT-dEL. 5. When the sourcedir was completly scanned for the selected dates, and you have @{"Description-Move" LINK KAP_MOVE} on, you will now see @{"ByteAndi's" LINK TRSI} Filedescriptionmover working....all deleted files where moved and sorted correct in the given @{"destination directory" LINK KAP_DEST}. 6. Finally, you will see some nice @{"statistics" LINK EXAMPLE_OUTPUT} to give you an overview what happen to your system during the deleting... @endnode @node KAP_SCAN "SETTING: SCAN RANGE [R]" @toc KAP_02 @{u}Scan Range@{uu} Here you specify the Scan-Range sOFT-dEL uses to search for files...if you won't change the current date(s), simply press enter to get back to the options screen...alternate, you could enter new dates for scanning... @endnode @node KAP_MOVE "SETTING: MOVE FILE-DESCRIPTIONS [M]" @toc KAP_02 @{u}Move File-Descriptions@{uu} (DEFAULT: OFF) With this switch you could choose if the found files should be moved to another Filelisting. If you switch it on, you have to enter a @{"Destination" LINK KAP_DEST}- Directory for moving ! When this switch is on, sOFT-dEL performs the normal @{"Deleting Procedure" LINK PROGRAM_LOGIC}. After deleting all found files, @{"ByteAndi's" LINK TRSI} FileDescription-Mover begins to work and move all Descriptions to the selected Directory..hope you like the Progress-Indicator...:)))) Of course all found files where sorted by dates with the file-descriptions which where already in the destination-filelisting, so it's sure that all descriptions where in the correct order. Many THX must go to Byti, which wrotes this fuckin' faast Mover-Routine for me... @endnode @node KAP_SHOW "SETTING: SHOW FILE-DESCRIPTIONS [S]" @toc KAP_02 @{u}Show File-Descriptions@{uu} (DEFAULT: ON) This switch allows you to choose if the FileDescriptions should be shown in Auto-Mode. To increase the Speed of sOFT-dEL, I recommend to switch it to OFF when using the @{"AutoMode" LINK KAP_AUTO}, 'coz the Descriptions where read from HD and this takes much more time than only searching in memory for the dates without displaying the descriptions. @{u}NOTE:@{uu} This switch could only be changed when the @{"AutoMode" LINK KAP_AUTO} Switch is on, 'coz when you don't use AutoMode, you have to confirm the deleting of each found file by yourself, and therefor you would see the Description for every file...:) @endnode @node KAP_AUTO "SETTING: AUTO-MODE FOR DELETING FILES [A]" @toc KAP_02 @{u}Auto-Mode@{uu} (DEFAULT: OFF) This switch allows you to automatically delete many days of Software without confirming every found file...when you switch it to ON, you could also choose with the @{"Show File-Description" LINK KAP_SHOW} Button if sOFT-dEL should display the Desc. or only displays 'Found!', which is much faaster and recommended in AutoMode. @{u}NOTE:@{uu} Be warned! In fact of the faast speed of this Program, you may loose important/new Software when you enter wrong dates ! So make sure that you enter the correct values before starting the Delete-Process !! You could always break the process by pressing CTRL-C anytime... @endnode @node KAP_ZERO "SETTING: SET FOUND FILES TO ZERO-BYTES [Z]" @toc KAP_02 @{u}Set 0-Bytes@{uu} (DEFAULT: OFF) This switch allows you to set the deleted Filesize to 0 Bytes...this is useful if you want to skip Amiex files which where already uploaded, i.e. If you delete the Files completly and a user upload a file which where ul'ed but deleted, than only the Dupechecker will found the double File *AFTER* the Upload...but when you set this switch on sOFT-dEL only set the Filesize to 0 and remains the filename so that Amiex automatically skips it... Another nice effect is the ability to CREATE files, which where not found in the searchpathes...i.e. you have a old filelisting and want to have the 0-byte fileentries in your dirs, delete the whole dir (or the dates you want to create) with this option enabled, and a few seconds (or minutes..:) later you have all the filenames in the selected pathes... @{u}NOTE:@{uu} The Filesize will be 0, but EVERY file-entry has a normal length of 512 bytes on FFS formated devices, coz the Amiga-Dos Filesystem stores with every Fileentry other informations like creation date, FileComment and other stuff...so if you have 2200 files in one dir with 0 bytes, you will loose 1.126.400 Bytes (2200 * 512) !!! @endnode @node KAP_SOURCE "SETTING: SET SOURCE DIRECTORY [1]" @toc KAP_02 @{u}Set Source Directory@{uu} Here you specify which Filelisting should be scanned for the entered dates. This parameter is @{b}*ABSOLUTLY RECOMMENDED*@{ub} and without specifying it, sOFT-dEL won't work.... When you where asked to enter the Dir, press simply ENTER and the Upload- Directory is selected. If you don't specify a Dirnumber, sOFT-dEL stops with an errormessage if you try to start deleting ! @endnode @node KAP_DEST "SETTING: SET DESTINATION DIRECTORY [2]" @toc KAP_02 @{u}Set Destination Directory@{uu} Here you specify the Filelisting where all found files should be moved to. This Option takes only effect if the @{"Move File-Description" LINK KAP_MOVE} Option is switched to ON. If you want to move the descriptions and enter as Filelisting-Number the same number like the Source-Dir, sOFT-dEL stops with an errormessage. If you don't specify a Destination-Filelisting but the @{"Move-Option" LINK KAP_MOVE} is ON, sOFT-dEL stops if you try to start deleting, too ! @endnode @node KAP_PATHES "SETTING:SET SEARCH-PATHES [P]" @toc KAP_02 @{u}Set Search-Pathes@{uu} Here you have to specify, in which pathes sOFT-dEL should look for files to delete...this is the 2nd parameter which is @{b}*ABSOLUTLY RECOMMENDED*@{ub} ! When you select this setting, you have three choices: @{b}U@{ub})pload - The Uploadpathes of the current conference where read and displayed to you...now you could choose which pathes sOFT-dEL should scan... @{b}D@{ub})ownload - The Downloadpathes of the current conference where read and displayed to you...now you could choose which pathes sOFT-dEL should scan... @{b}B@{ub})oth Pathes - @{b}*ALL*@{ub} pathes (UL/DL) in the current conference icon where taken to look for files..of course, equal Pathes where skipped...:) @endnode @node KAP_QUIT "OPTION: QUIT - EXIT sOFT-dEL [Q]" @toc KAP_02 @{u}QUIT@{uu} When you press 'Q', sOFT-dEL immediatly exits and nothing happen...:) @endnode @node KAP_SPACE "OPTION: START DELETING WITH CHOOSEN SETTINGS [SPACE]" @toc KAP_02 @{u}Start Deleting@{uu} When you press @{b}SPACE@{ub} and all needed settings are correct, sOFT-dEL nows starts with the Scanning of the Source-Directory...see chapter @{"USAGE" LINK PROGRAM_LOGIC} for more informations how sOFT-dEL works... @endnode @node KAP_03 "THE GREETINGS & HOW TO CONTACT" First, da great Greetings, which fly to: ByteAndi/tRSi - For his great FileDescriptionMover and other help ...:) aRGON/dTL - For testing and some tips Wolfgang/SDC - For his expensive and cewl testing ..:) hope to see yar... dELTA-X/tRSi - Hope to hear from U as fast as possible.... mC-lOUD/tRSi - Warum warste nich auf der WoC - Paddy ? eCS/tRSi - Thx for let me leeching in yar bbs...:) dR.dRE!/tRSi - Man man man....komm bloss mal nach bERLIN-->ROOLEZ!
