IMPORTANT!  Read this file entirely!  It contains important information
about this version of TIN.

This is an unofficial port of TIN 1.2 PL2 (also known as TIN 1.22).  Most
of the Amiga work is based on the official TIN 1.2 PL0 port (which seems to
be the last official Amiga version).

If you don't know what TIN is, please read the "tin.man" file.


TIN 1.22 offers several enhancements over TIN 1.20, see the "CHANGES" file
for information on new features and bug fixes.  Also, thanks to the
superior code generation and optimization of SAS/C 6.51, TIN 1.22 is
*significantly* faster than previous versions of TIN.

(It'd be even faster (and smaller) if the TIN authors didn't insist on
having just about most of the data in the program as global or static - but
that's another topic...  :)


To install TIN, you will need to do the following:



1.  Decide which version of TIN you want to install.

2.  Run the appropiate script to create that version.

	For the 68000 version, type:       Make000

	For the 68020/68030 version, type: Make020

	For the 68040 version, type:       Make040


The script will then make the appropriate binary for your system.

The binary will be named 'tin.exe'.


3.  Copy the 'tin.exe' binary to someplace in your path.  UUCP:C is a good
place for this.

4.  Copy the 'ActiveD' binary to someplace in your path, again UUCP:C is a
good place (this is not necessary if you have automatic active file
generation).

5.  Modify the 'tin' script to suit your needs.  As it is supplied, it is
how I use it on my system.

6.  Copy the 'tin' script to someplace in your path.

'tin' script, please see the "tin.amiga.doc" file.



Important notes:

1.  All information in this file superscedes any information given in
"tin.amiga.doc".  "tin.amiga.doc" is the original Amiga readme from the TIN
1.20 (1.2 PL0) distribution.

2.  OS 1.3 and beta OS 2.0 releases are no longer supported.  To use this
version of TIN you must have OS 2.04 or better.

3.  TIN 1.22 index files are not compatible with older TIN index files.  If
you try to use TIN 1.22 with older index files, TIN will complain that the
index is corrupted and it will generate a new index file.

4.  TIN 1.22 no longer requires fiddling with a stack before (or after)
running, this is now automatic (so ignore the stack instructions in
"tin.amiga.doc").

5.  The "send bug report" function is addressed to the original author of
TIN.  If you think the bug you are experiencing is due to the Amiga port,
please make sure you email me instead of the original author.

6.  This version is safe for BBS use, it will not allow manipulation of
files outside of the user's $HOME directory.  However, the automatic
uudecode/unshar functions could cause a problem.  If a file to be uudecoded
contains a filename like "begin 644 sys:c/dir" (and some idiots do this)
then the file "sys:c/dir" will be overwritten with what is in the uuencoded
file.

7. Remote use is untested, there should not be any problems however.
