Giants, it seems, are a direct result of the oncoming of Vampires.
Wether they were sent as the world saviours or not is unknown but as
supervisors in the late 6th millenium (6KAD) began to evolve into
the voracious vampires it seems that the workers they pushed into
a life of near slavery which lasted a thousand years began to evolve
into Giants.

Eventually this evolution was the undoing of the Vampires because the
Giants greatly outnumbered them and soon the revolution occurred which
freed the world of the tyrranical rule of the Emporers and Vampires.
The great Battle of 7KAD (7452-7 a.d. to be exact) was the final blow 
to the Vampires who spread out wide across the world and hid from the
light of day. They constantly blamed each other for the onslaught of
their enemy but the prevailing of the Giants launched an era of safety
which was not fully recognized until the next world wide onslaught in
9543 a.d.

Since then Giants have pretty much staid the same. They live several
hundred years and are very strong. They make great warriors and are
more apt to be warriors than wizards. They stand some 7 and a half
feet tall but because of their size and strength are not as agile as
other races.
