TITLE:By Macno, Ripper, El Loco, Uyanik, Blitter, Helmet, Nimrod, Posda PALETTE:0223 088a 0978 09bc 3 ROM issue 1 by ESSENCE 2ALTERNATIVE SLOGAN1: Real Or Mop ROM. R O M. RROMMM. ROOOOOM. ROHOOHOHOHOOOMMMM. Sometimes I play with a word. I repeat it, I feel its sound gurgling in my mouth, I taste its reverberations, I repeat it quickly, I sing it in a monotous lullaby. At the end I repeat it once again, in a normal way, and I notice surprised how odd this word sounds, how it has seemingly lost its semantic soul. I repeat it and I don't understand what is it doing in my mind, what is its meaning, why it is floating between my lips. I have repeated "ROM" many times, I have read it, I have felt its flatulent vibrations, I have opened my defenceless brain to its orthographical substance. I almost have not understood. ROM is the essence of computer life? ROM is the brainchild of an avantgarde main editor who plays with words, mags and scene as he plays with his own oneiric images. ROM is an unknown document of an unexisting world, it's the newspaper of a scene that does not exist. ROM is reality and fantasy married in another dimension. ROM is a dark cavern of mixed feelings, neither its main editor fully understands them, maybe, or maybe he knows everything and everything controls. He pours his soul and his masks on the magnetic media, possibly without realizing what are the masks he is throwing and what are the ones he is keeping, hopefully without understanding who is he and what is ROM. This mag has many masks, it continuosly plays with them, it likes to confuse the reader, to show and to hide, it never stops to illude your senses and it finally leaves the reader unaware of everything: the purest of the ignorants. You read ROM and you wonder if you can trust it. Where is true, where is not. Serious? Tremendously spandimerda? More scenologist than Scenology? Simply Scemologist? Totally fake? Just ironic? Journalistic? ROM is everything. ROM is nothing, its masks fuse themselves in an unique immaterial building. This building is really a 2rewarding orthographical masterpiece1, accept it or not, whatever you may think of it, you won't find anything similar in the scene. 3SPANDIMERDA VALUE ROM boasts more and better than anyone else. That's a fact. ROM's way of boasting itself is of a superior quality. You will never read in ROM "We are the best" that's a too easy and direct way of spandimerding, you will read sentences like the ones we have collected in the following ROM BLOB, a short remix of ROM's most remarkable phrases. Sadly the optimum inward egocentric spandimerding is not coupled with a well developed outward one. It's difficult to see in ROM good attacks against other sceners even if there can be some exceptions. 2Christine De La Queen1's "The cockfight" can be seen as an attack against the principles that are the foundations of the spandimerda movement. As you should surely know, the Spandimerda Committee has recently decided to recognize the legitimation of spandimerding against spandimerding and has also accepted it as a pure form of art. An article about the newborn SceMology Institute is a worthy ironic spandimerding of the decrepit Scenology Faculty. We obviously welcome similar attacks against that bunch of nerds, even if we would have preferred it to be nastier and more cruel. 3SO-WHAT? ARTICLES We have to say that when Mop makes a So-What? article he does it with professionality. Mop knows this and he knew that he was filling his mag with a colossal So-What? piece when he conceived 2"Spy or driver?"1, the ultimate journalistic report on The Spy's driving abilities. Usually So-What? articles are 1500 bytes long and ultimately expected, ROM instead has the power of making a So-What? article of a new kind. It is a complete journalistic report, with accurate review of the published literature on the case, exclusive revelations collected by a special reporter and nothing less than a remarkable scene opinion pool especially organized for the case. Everything about The Spy and the mysterious world of cars. Heaven on Earth, So-What? entusiasts can stop to dream, Mop has feeded them, well aware of what he was doing (Demagogic or what?). 3GOLDEN PEARLS Golden pearls in ROM? Hard to say. Maybe the whole mag is a golden pearl, maybe all it's introductory articles, maybe simply whatever has been gathered in the: 3ROM BLOB - Drops of concentrated spandimerda juice and more. 2Forget all that you've learned in the past. You are just about to experience 2the rise of a new standard. 2The scener is a bright young man, who needs a good and entertaining guide to 2this world called scene. He deserves a professional publication, and ROM is 2here to fill this wide gap. 2ROM was primarily developed as a serious scene publication. 2We, here at ROM, do not wish to cause any kind of inconvenience to our readers. 2Thus ROM became the essence of computer life. 2ROM is a disk magazine, and a reliable disk publications has to be filled with 2constructive and pleasant words. 2"ROM is going to present itself as a different magazine facing the scene from a 2serious point of view; you will believe that and Mop will start to play the 2Priest of the Scene." 3THE RIPPER'S LITERARY CRITIC THE master of puppets. What our 2Mop1 means when he starts his mag writing "Forget all that you've learned in the past. You're just about to experience the rise of a new standard". Interesting. Forgetting the past is a suggestion which an old way of conceiving art used to state: futurism. "All the museums should be closed" was screaming Filippo Tommaso Marinetti in his Manifesto. Well, it seems both Mop and Marinetti want to give a clear cut with the past. But will Mop do not repeat the errors of the past as he wants to act without considering history which is always magistra vitae? Good luck, I would dare to wish him. Going on there's another clear statement which is worth to be discussed: "The ones in power have always tried to inflict their verdict onto the masses; in the scene, it seems that most main editors have decided that sceners are a bunch of scholar nerds". Radical statement, isn't it. Also if under a hidden light Mop is preparing a social revolution. He's trying to build a scene-conscience as Marx was planning the class-conscience of proletars. What will be the next step from Mop? He's going to push forward his propaganda before even arming sceners? Maybe some of you will keep on smiling after reading these lines, but just remember also the tzar was smiling while Lenin was marching. 3EL LOCO'S AWAKENINGS A good idea guys, another form for abbreviation, though not RAW this time! Anyone home? Trackloaded? Now what the hell were they thinking when making it trackloaded? Everyone can do a trackloader, so it can't be for the boasting sake. Can't say I liked their menu, made it look like a cartoon for children. 3ZINKFLOID'S (UYANIK) DIRECT THOUGHTS The follow up to Playbyte - I never have, I never spread, heheh! I expect it being a very serious mag with intelligent readers letter and 12Kbyte "how to install" editorial... anyway it's from Essence so we should say at least that it must be good otherwise we tell the whole world that ELEF is a dirty ripper... (no, no, I am non....)! Hi Elef - get used of some austrian grass attack in denmark... 3THE ULTIMATE QUOTES FROM THE BLITTER - Read Or Masturbate - Rubbish Or Mindlitter - Read Only Mail 3LORD HELMET'S TRUE OPINION After my opinion the first mag with real spirit released after RAW got borned. Really new and nice code, nice and informative articles and a good atmosphere. They have also started a new trend, instead of writing gossip about facts as RAW do, this mag writes facts about gossips. But a very good start for this magazine, and possible a new number one. 3NIMROD'S DEFINITION Very professional, very slick. Perhaps too slick. Must be on guard against "So What"-ism. Could be a mag with a great future. 3POSDNUOS' CHARTS CONCERNS After years and years, in which diskmags' scene was dominated by R.A.W., I'm happy that an experienced writer as Mop is, has finally understood the way to kick Lord Helmet's ass and to climb up to the first place in the charts. Just call your mag with the shorther name you can, and just claim to have something revolutionary. Always 'people voting in the charts' appreciate that!
