If such a book exists, I have yet to find it. The Directory is by no means complete, and I am still searching for new chords and different ways to play existing chords held within the directory for future updates. If you can help me with this by sending me IFFs, photo-copies, book names, etc I would be very grateful. I cannot reward you in anyway, shape or form except for including your name within all future updates. ***************************************************************** System Requirements: ***************************************************************** 1 .. An Amiga (this is most important!). 2 .. Your Amiga should be set to 80 characters per line. If in doubt copy the System-Configuration file in the Devs dir to the new disk. If you do suffer any problems, then you can return your original disk to me (please enclose a self stamped addressed envelope) and I will fix it for you. ***************************************************************** Why? ***************************************************************** I'm very forgetful, and chords are something I seem to be very good at forgetting. Trying to remember 3 or 4 different positions for every chord for me is impossible, and if I am playing from a book which contains just the chords and no box to remind me, then my hand is up and down the neck like an ST owner to the repair shop. At first I used to draw chord positions on pieces of paper and promptly loose them, so I upgraded and started using DPaint. I would draw all the new chords, power pack them and run them from a simple menu system, and this worked fine for 6 or 7 months until it started, the dreaded Disk Swapping. All of a sudden it went from loading a pic in 5 or 6 seconds to loading in 40 or 50 seconds. So I decided to upgrade again and here it is: The Guitar Chord Directory Volume 1. ***************************************************************** What is it ***************************************************************** The Guitar Chord Directory Vol 1 is a collection of 96 chords 188 positions in total, of some of the most often used chords: Major, Minor, 7, Major 7, Minor 7, 6, 9 & 13 When I sat down and started to work out what it was I needed, it seemed to me that the main ingredient is what I call T.N.F.F. (or The No Fuss Factor) followed by speed and finally the ability for it to work on all Amigas including the unexpanded 512K (not all people can afford to buy memory expansions), hence only 96 chords in this version. For the ease of the user I've opted to show 3 chord positions on the screen at the same time, all accessed from pull down menus using the right mouse button, displayed on a simple screen in under 1/4 second (its fast). I didn't add sound because unless you have some decent samples it seems like a waste of time, and as for using the amiga sound chip for tuning a guitar, it is almost impossible. But, I am waiting for some samples, so a dedicated guitar tuner is on the cards for Registered users later in the year. The newer versions of The Chord Directory (of which this is one) is using Vol 2 menus, and so have the added bonus of seeing what will be available in the next version that is now being tested. There is a slight bug that I have found in the last few days: If you have an unexpanded A500 then it may crash due to memory problems. To avoid this select one of the unavailable chords every 30 to 40 selections and everything should be all right. If you find The Guitar Chord Directory Vol 1.1b useful, then please read on. If not, then don't. ***************************************************************** REGISTRATION ***************************************************************** The whole idea of Registration goes against the grain for me, but without it I will not be able to offer the service that I want to offer. I have given the idea of Registration a lot of time and thought, and feel that I have come up with a unique package suitable for all. Registration fee: ----------------- The Registration fee is an initial one off payment and I have devised 2 ways to pay. 1: ... £5.00 + a stamped self addressed envelope. 2: ... £2.50 + a stamped self addressed envelope + disk full of any software that you choose. This disk will be returned to you with the program disk within 24hrs of receipt. Updates: -------- All Registered users will receive Free updates of the directory & any new utilities written by myself, if you supply a self stamped addressed envelope and disk/s, (a little bit of software on the disk would be nice) otherwise a £2.50 copying fee will have to be charged. Displays 3 positions on the screen and is just as fast as volume 1. Chords: ------- Major, 7, Minor, Major 7, Minor 7, sus4, 7sus4, 6, Minor 6, 9, Minor 9, Major 9, 6/9, 7+9, 7-9, Aug, 7+5, Dim, -5, 7-5, 9-5, 11 & 13 A new feature added by popular demand is the "SAVE IFF" option. This allows you to save a screen as an IFF file, which can then be loaded into any paint package and printed for reference.
