------------------------------------------- I C O N S P L U S D I S K S 1 - 3 Icons drawn by Greg S. Payne, August 1993 PD by various talented people ------------------------------------------- Before we go any further there are a few things that you need to know: 1) These disks may be freely distributed so long as they remain as a 3 disk set and that ALL documentation on EACH disk remains unchanged. 2) These icons are a replacement for all your 4 color versions. They have been designed for an 8 color interlaced workbench screen. 3) I'm no artist and it probably shows. The only drawing tool I've ever been able to use is an Amiga and a mouse. 4) I've tried to be as original and colorful as possible, but being creative can be extremely frustrating (something I've only just realised). 5) This is my first time! (at this kinda fing) so if I seem to ramble on and and start talking jibberish, stay with it. 5½) I'm mad. Right, now we've got that bit out of the way, I'll tell you what's on each disk. ICONSPLUS 1 ----------- Is the bootable disk (you've probably guessed that already). It contains all the standard workbench icons in a drawer named WB. I have included icons for v3.0 (although I don't actually own that particular version) so if I've left any out, I'm sorry. PD_CLITools contains 2 programs that can only be accessed from the shell (hence the name). Full documentation for each program is included in the drawer. D.I.Y. is where you'll find 2 sub dirs called ClipArt and IconTemplates. ClipArt contains two IFF pictures; ClipArt1.iff (which has all the bits I've used) and Templates.iff (which are the backgrounds to the icons). You can load them into your fav paint prog and design your own. To see what they look like, just double-click the icon. IconTemplates contains the templates in icon form, so you can see how they animate. The other drawers contain all the other types of icons; projects, tools, games, etc. I think I've included every possible icon you'll ever need, but no doubt I may have missed one or 2 (or three or 4). Also on this disk are 2 proportional fonts that I drew from scratch using FED (from v1.2) called, SmoothyThick (for screen text) and SmoothyThin (for icon text). I don't really understand fonts (what the hell is a kern??) so some of the characters may not be spaced correctly. Can anyone recommend a decent font editor?? ScreenShift is on here because my horizontal and vertical hold may be different to yours (does that make sense?) If (and I mean if) you want your workbench to look like this, then the easiest way is to just copy the contents of Prefs/Env-Archive/Sys to the disk that you boot from. (NOTE: you'll find the drawer in the root dir of this disk. You'll also need the 2 fonts mentioned earlier on). NOTE2: This only installs the window patterns, fonts settings etc. NOT the actual Workbench icons - you'll have to do that yourself. Yeah, alright so you knew that already, or maybe you didn't? For those interested, the colors are: 11 11 11 (light grey) 00 00 00 (black) 15 15 15 (white) 06 08 11 (blue) 15 11 10 (salmon pink!) 00 09 05 (green) 07 07 07 (dark grey) 13 13 13 (off white) As I said earlier on, the icons have been designed for an interlaced screen (on an ECS v2.04 machine). If you switch to a lower screenmode then they are going to look enormous. I've no idea what they look like on the newish AGA screenmodes, but they'll probably get smaller the higher you go. If someone out there would like to lend me an A4000 until 1996, let me know!! ICONSPLUS DISKS 2 & 3 --------------------- This is where most of the pd is. Now, to keep everything looking the same I've had to change all the icons that were drawn by the authors of the programs. I'd just like to say, that if I've upset anyone by doing this, then I apologize. Anyway, on each disk you'll find a drawer with all the original icons in it. There's also a file called `Contents.doc' which tells you the version, author, where it came from and what's been crunched. THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ----------------------- Some of the programs require extra `bits' to be installed like libraries, etc. I've already installed them on this disk (IconsPlus_1) so you can can get going. Nearly forgot! You can print the doc/text files from these disks. Hey, I am TRYING to make things easier for you. Virus Checker and PPMC require AmigaGuide and Installer which (because of space) are not included, but you can get them from Fish Disk #870. AII needs lha, zoo, arc and a few others. I've put lha in the C directory of this disk, if you want the rest you'll have to look elsewhere. Sorry. The MagicMenu documentation is in german. As you look around the disks you may recognise some icons. That's because I've borrowed ideas and bits from other systems. Also, a few are just modified from the original. However, I don't think you'll see icons like this anywhere else. You're probably asking why I did all this (you're not? Go away then). Seriously, I thought that if the PC can have nice looking icons, so can the Amiga. There's more to it than that - it's to do with a dick head I work with. Let's just say, I've proved him wrong (again). These disks were never intended to be PD. What started out as a challenge (which I thought I'd never be able to do) turned into one of the most enjoyable things I've ever done??!! Get outta here! Finally, I don't care what you do with the icons. Pass them around give 'em to your friends, relatives, whoever.
