HERMES' OUTCOMM (Version 1.0) Copyright (c) 1989 A. G. Kartsatos (See Below Distribution Requirements) This little program will actually delete all the comments from your C programs. These are comments between the symbols /* and */. No nested comments are allowed. Also, the code file that you want to fix should be correct with respect to its comments, otherwise you may get unexpectable results. The program will also delete all lines that lie entirely within comments. Naturally, all these changes take place in the output file. I have taken care of all the possibilities of misuse of the program that I could think of. You can only run this program from the CLI. To run the program, just press: OUTCOMM InFile OutFile where InFile is the C code file that you want to correct and OutFile is the file that will receive the output. To avoid binary files, the program checks the first 512 bytes of the given InFile for binary symbols. If it does find any, it will tell you so before it aborts. The program will support input files up to 10000 lines long. If OUTCOMM does not find any comments in the given input file, it will not open the output file. OUTCOMM stores the entire InFile into a buffer in memory for quick access of data. Thus, if you do not have enough memory to store the buffer, the program will notify you accordingly before it exits. I have included an example of a file that I personally would like to see "cleaned up." The file is called OUTCOMM.exp. Such files are the product of C code generating programs. They contain innumerable comments for structures of gadgets, images, windows, etc. Cleaning the code of such outputs is one of the reasons I wrote OUTCOMM. Maybe, in a later version, I will add MODULA 2 and FORTRAN programs to the possible InFiles of OUTCOMM.
