(So there!) Below is the original doc. for version 1.2 with appropriate alterations for changes made up to version 1.84 WHAT IS GOLFSCORE ANALYSER? Golfscore is a program to record and analyse golfscores! Nah, geddaway....... Its purpose is to record each round you play, store it,make up an eclectic score from the latest round & previous rounds, compare each round against your personal best and update if required. It also works out average scores, totals up birdies, pars, bogeys etc. on a per hole & a per round basis & keeps a running total. You can also print an individual score, best score, eclectic score or average scores if you really want to. NEW! You can also show graphs of scores & performance against par. NEWER! It will now work out stableford points. *************************************************************************** Written & compiled using the wonderful AMOS basic & compiler. *************************************************************************** Golfscore 1.0 was written to fulfill my own requirement for a program of this type & also as an exercise to get me used to using AMOS. Golfscore does multi-task, to toggle between it & workbench, press LEFT AMAGA + A Paul Ciupek of NBS talked me into tarting up the original & slapping it into his library, & because of the response from users, here is the latest improved, & (hopefully!!) de-bugged version 1.84 I have had one request for a 9 hole version of golfscore, if I get a lot more people wanting this then it shall be done - so LET ME KNOW! If you find any bugs, (You will!!) or have any suggestions or comments to make, please let me know. This program will probably crash if you try to make it, but it is ok in every day use. (HINT- I use Wilson Ultra AR432 golf balls!) This program is not P.D. but it is freely redistributable, provided you keep this doc file with it & you don't make an unreasonable amount of money from it. Oh, and don't change the name of the disk, because all the load/save operations require a volume called Golfscore: NOTE TO EXISTING USERS UNFORTUNATELY PRE V1.82 SCORES ARE NO LONGER COMPATIBLE WITH THIS VERSION. If you have V1.82 or later you are OK. This is because of the additional data required for the graphs (see below). You have three choices. i. Re enter all your old scores into the new version. ii. Start afresh iii. Keep using the old version. Sorry, but that is the price of progress! HOW DO YOU USE IT? ------------------ LOADING: You can run Golfscore from workbench or you can boot from the golfscore disk on power-up. As far as I know it runs on all Amiga set-ups, including the new 500+. (half meg owners will have to use v1.2, sorry). GETTING STARTED: The first thing to do is to configure your course(s). To do this you go to the project menu and select...wait for it....Configure a course!, get the idea? Good. OK Golfscore will then display a scorecard & prompt you for the details of your course (it is a good idea to have the scorecard of your course handy before you do this), it will require the yardage, stroke index & par for each hole. When you have input the course details, a file will automatically be created for the course on the disk. You will only have to do this once for each course, afterwards you will be able to re-load the course details using the OPEN A COURSE option. OPEN A COURSE: To open a course go to the project menu and select......open a course you will only need to do this if you are using two courses & want to change to another. All other functions automaticaly prompt for a a course if one is not already in memory. If you only have one course on the disk, this will be opened automatically, otherwise you will be given a file selector asking you to select a course. INPUTTING A SCORE: The next thing you will need to do is input a score. To do this go to the scores menu & select, ...yes, you've guessed it... Input a score. This will open a sub-menu asking for stroke play or stableford. Once again, everthing is prompted for on screen so you can't really go wrong. STROKE PLAY: Once the score has been input, it is compared to the eclectic & best scores which are updated as needed (I can't spell nessessssery). Relevent bits will also have sums done on them (I can't spell calculations, either), to be used in the statistics (more on stats later). NOTE-You are not allowed to input a score of 0 on any hole in stroke play, this is because it would create havoc with the calculations for statistical analasys (Ever tried to divide a number by 0?) If you're like me, you have probably had a play with Golfscore already so you will have noticed that it doesn't really do much untill you have a score on file. B E W A R E ! Any score input will affect the statistics for all future calculations so MAKE SURE ANY SCORE IS CORRECT BEFORE YOU SAVE IT TO DISK!!!!!! You may delete a score but the statistics will already have been added to the overall analysis file, which you cannot at present alter, except to delete. (future!). STABLEFORD: As for stroke play except you CAN have a score of 0 on a hole because the only statistic altered by a stableford round is the eclectic score. this is an ideal way to include a new best score on a particular hole in your eclectic score. SHOW A SCORE: To show a score, go to the scores menu and select "Show a score". Yes, I know, you're way ahead of me. If you have already opened a course you will be given a file selector asking you which score to show.(each score has a date & course attached to its filename). You will only be offered scores from the current course. If you have not already opened a course, you will be prompted to open one by a file selector (unless you only have one course on the disk). If you wish to see scores from a different course you will first have to open the course. DELETE A SCORE: (Extended) Fairly obvious one this, go to the scores menu and.......... ( DELETING OLD SCORES DOES NOT AFFECT STATISTICS ) SHOW BEST SCORE: Go to the analysis menu and select "Show Best Score" (shock horror probe !) this will show you your best ever round . SHOW ECLECTIC SCORE: For those of you who don't know what an eclectic score is, it is the best ever score on a HOLE BY HOLE basis, each individual best score on each hole being gathered together into one seriously good round. This is compared & if required, updated every time a new score is input. To show an eclectic score go to the analysis menu and etc....etc..... SHOW STATISTICS: Every time a stroke play score is input, the stats file for that course is updated. SO MAKE SURE EVERY SCORE IS CORRECT BEFORE SAVING. The best way to see what the stats are is to input a score & Then go to the analysis menu and ....... well, you know the drill. PAR GRAPH (NEW!): This will show you a graph of holes under par, level par & over par over however many rounds you have played. SCORE GRAPH (NEW!) This will show you a graph of your actual scores against your average scores over however many rounds you have played. *** NOTE ON GRAPHS *** Don't expect to see a graph after only one round, it is extreemly difficult to draw a line between only one point!!!!! (The above sentance does make sense, read it again, I'm sure you'll get it). HARDCOPY MENU (Extended) Confession time. The text-print function in Golfscore is very primitive. this is for two reasons: 1. My printer is very primitive 2. My knowledge of such things is also very primative. However, it does work as long as you have a printer connected to the paralell? parallel? anyway,the port that isn't the serial port.(you know what I mean.) NEW! There is now a facility to print the current screen to a graphics printer in full colour, wow! You will need your own printer driver in order to do this. simply select the option in the hardcopy menu. Hint- before doing this use the prefs screen to make black white & vice versa this will save you a fortune in printer ribbons! There is also a screen dump facility, which saves the current screen to disk as an IFF file, which can be printed via your favorite art package or printer utility. this is a throwback to earlier versions without the screenprint facility, I've left it in in case anyone wants to use it To print a score, go to the hardcopy menu, wear a silly hat, place your hand inside your jacket and shout "I am Napoleon, I tell you, I am!" RESETTING STATS: (New) In this version the only way to re-set your stats to zero is to delete them, go to the delete a score option in the menu and select the delete stats, delete best, delete eclectic options PREFERENCES: (New) You are no longer stuck with my choice of colours, you can now set your own, & turn off the sound effects (WOT?) using the preference menu. I know this is a minority program, in that users will need to own an Amiga AND play Golf, but I hope it may be usefull to someone.
