Welcome to Radbench version 1.4!!!

The idea of the Radbench is simply to save a lot of time in loading
Workbench, and to provide you with as many useful PD utilities as I can get
my hands on, and cram onto the disk.

Radbench takes about 1 and a half minutes to load up initially from
floppy, which is about the same, if not less time than Workbench.

It will stay resident in memory until you turn off the computer at the
powerpack, so from then onwards, resetting your computer with no disk in
the drive will load up the full Radbench in about 5.8, yes 5.8 SECONDS!

Radbench uses as little memory as possible, but I would reccommend the following
restrictions:

Radbench works well with 1 MEG upwards, but, to be honest, is most useful
when you have 1.5 MEG UPWARDS, but, is still very useful to 1 MEG owners.

Most things that are on the Workbench disk are on the Radbench,
and a few may be powerpacked, so please leave in powepacker.library in the libs
device, and make sure that it is present if you re-assign libs:

(If this causes you problems, you can always de-pack them!)

However, the Radbench may not stay resident if you use a non-dos games disk,
so be careful! (You should be alright if using Workbench disks, though)

Therefore the Radbench behaves almost exactly the same as Workbench1.3,
except:

1) IT LEAVES DF0 FREE AS A WORK DRIVE, ALL COMMANDS ARE IN RAD:, THEREFORE
IT IS LIKE HAVING A SECOND DISK DRIVE!!

2) EVERYTHING IS FAR FAR QUICKER!!!

3) IT IS FULLY CUSTOMIZABLE: (See next few paragraphs)

4) VIRUSx IS LOADED, ENSURING PROTECTION AGAINST ALL BOOT-BLOCk VIRUSES!

N.B: ALL of the above are ADVANTAGES!!

Ok, so , admittedly, problems may arise because some of the Workbench
librarys are missing, and occasionally, programs may require these.

It is therefore possible to customise the Radbench disk to your own
requirements. Simply add the additional librarys, whatever to the boot-up
disk, increase the Highcyl value in Mountlist if more memory will be
required (which it WILL be probably!), and away you go, all files will be
copied to radbench resident disk on bootup of the disk.

To get rid of Radbench, either turn off at the powerpack, or run the CLI
from Radbench, and type the command Remrad.

THE ICONS:

There are some icons in the Radbench window when opened:

   1) CLI. This behaves like the Workbench CLI, although you may require
additional commands in the C directory, depending on what you are doing.
Once again, if this is so, then `customise` your own Radbench disk by adding
the necessary commands to c: of the Bootup disk, increasing Highcyl in
Mountlist, and re-booting, as described above for libs:

   2) TRANS>RAD. This will re-assign all devices back to RAD: in the
appropriate directories.

   4) VIRUSx. This program, by Steve Tibbett will check all disks
inserted into current drives available for viruses, and report all
non-standard boot-code. Appropriate Documents should be in the Documents
directory of the boot disk.

      OTHER PROGRAMS:

There are lots of other programs on the RadbBoot disk, whether with icons
or not!

Here`s a brief description of most, if not all of them: (search around!)

         DOCUMENTS! dir:

Contains this file, and documents for other programs on
this disk such as Muchmore-pp,pptype,ppshow,etc...

         OTHERCOMMS dir:

Contains various other commands that are not copied into
RAD: on bootup, but can be if put into the c directory (Highcyl may have to
be increased for this in Mountlist):-

FB: I THINK THIS GIVES THE CLI A SEPERATE SCREEN
POINTER: TURNS OFF THE MOUSE POINTER
BUTTON: WAITS FOR MOUSE BUTTON TO BE PRESSED
            BOOT: REBOOTS THE COMPUTER
            OFF: TURNS OFF ALL SCREENS
STARS: HORIZONTAL STARS (Stars {ON|OFF} )
STRIPES: PUTS COLOURED STRIPES IN BACKGROUND
            COLOURS: MAKES ALL TEXT COLOURED
SHOWIZ: DOES A SLIDESHOW ON ALL IFF PICS IN SPECIFIED DIR, GOOD
MEMCLEAR: MAKES AS MUCH MEMORY FREE AS POSSIBLE
BIGCLI: MAKES THE CLI WINDOW BIGGER TO FILL SCREEN
            WINSIZE: SPECIFY WINDOW SIZE
            MEDPLAYER: MED SONG PLAYER

                     UTILITIES dir:

               Contains various utilities:

PPSHOW: A IFF FILE PICTURE VIEWER FOR POWERPACKED, OR NORMAL
FORMAT FILES... USE FILE DISPLAYER TO SELECT FILE, OR TYPE PPSHOW <FILE>
FROM THE CLI
PPTYPE: WILL PRINT AN ASCII FILE TO THE PRINTER, TYPE PPTYPE
<FILENAME> FROM CLI, OR SELECT FILE FROM FILE VIEWER. FULL DOCUMENTS FOR
THIS, AND PPSHOW ARE IN THE DOCUMENTS DIRECTORY.

MUCHMORE: A TEXT DISPLAYER, TO DISPLAY ASCII TEXT FILES, OR
POWER PACKED ASCII TEXT FILES IN A SCROLLING FORMAT. WORKS IN THE SAME WAY
AS PPTYPE.
SID : A CLI COMMAND PROGRAM, VERY GOOD INDEED. FULL
DOCUMENTS ARE IN THE DOCUMENTS DIRECTORY.

SHORTCUT: PROVIDES ACCESS THROUGH A MENU SYSTEM TO SOME COMMANDS
ON DISK, WITHOUT USING THE STANDARD ICON SYSTEM, OR THE CLI. FULLY
CUSTOMIZABLE FOR YOUR OWN USE. DOCUMENTS ARE IN DOCUMENTS! DIRECTORY.

DISKCAT: THIS IS FULLY DOCUMENTED, AND WILL KEEP A RECORD OF THE
CONTENTS OF ALL YOUR DISKS!

DATEDIARY: THIS IS AN APPOINTMENTS CHECKER. TO KEEP YOUR
APPOINTMENTS ON FLOPPY DISK, either change the df0:newstart file to read:
                                 ASSIGN DD: diskname:
                                                       instead of
                                 ASSIGN DD: RAM:

Or alternatively, run the file COPYAPPS after editing, to copy your
appointments to floppy, and then run APPSRAM before editing again, to
copy them back.

            COPIED dir:

This dir contains the stuff that is copied into the root directory of RAD:
on initial boot-up of Radbench1.4. Anything put into here will be copied
into the root on boot-up, but make sure you adjust Highcyl in mountlist to
accomodate the extra file.

                     ODD-BODS dir:

Could contain absolutely anything, whether with an icon or
not! It all depends upon disk space after Radbench1.4 is finally finished.

               SOME FILES:
MAPMAKER is a demo of what the pascal compiler
can do. This is available on Fred Fish disk. Ring up your PD company for
urther details of which disk to get.

GREETS DEMO was done using the RSI demo
maker. Simple scroller saying hello to everyone I know!

ALSO, There is a great MED song in this
directory by Tim Forster 1992. This tune is shareware as well.
If you require any graphics, tunes, etc... written for your needs, or wish
to show your appreciation for the tune by sending a donation, Tim can
be contacted at:

                       79 CHAPEL STREET,
                       THATCHHAM,
                       BERKSHIRE.

                     OTHER DIRECTORIES:

There may be some other useful things lurking around(!).
Just go into <CLI>, and take a look!

OK, I think that`s about all. Please pass this proggie onto other people,
but, it`s SHAREWARE, so PLEASE send me a modest donation, if only a fiver,
if you continue using the program.

I would love to hear of ideas for improvements, etc... for Radbench 2, so
drop me a line, and send your donations to:

                  C.PARTRIDGE,
                  9 WESTBOURNE AVENUE,
                  WREA GREEN,
                  NR. PRESTON,
                  LANCS.,
                  PR4 2PL

About the donations: You might not think that it matters much, but, with
more money, there comes more software! Also, It is a great encouragement to
receive something when you`ve worked hard on a program for months!!!
Think about it: You have this program for free at the moment, and I
worked hard on it for about three months.
You can either ruin the software industry, and not pay for it if you use it,
or do the honest thing, and pay for it, with only a fraction of the money
used to pay for commercial software!
Well there you have it... I`ll leave it up to your conscience...

If you give this program to a friend, I would appreciate it if, if you have
modified it or customised itin any way, you pass it on as you received it,
THAT INCLUDES THE ICONS AND THIS README FILE!

Cheers all, have a great year!

                           C.Partridge 3/1/92

PS: Watch out for Radbench Two, coming soon! Greets are in seperate demo on
disk.
