This text should be included on the same disk as... VIRUS MURDERER V1.0 if not... well, bad luck. *** Instructions *** Seek and destroy: Loads the bootblock to the buffer and analyses it for viruses. If a virus is found it will be killed without request, but it will leave normal dos bootblock and unknown bootblocks. Seek and destroy uses a normal dos bootblock to kill viruses. Examine: Loads the bootblock to the buffer and analyses it, and tells what the bootblock contains. Install: Installs a normal dos bootblock. Ascii: Shows the current buffer in ascii. Name: Shows the name of the disk. Read: Reads the bootblock to the buffer. Write: Write the current buffer to the bootblock. Analyse: Analyses the current buffer. Check ptr.: Check the memory for resident programmes. Kill mem.: Disables reident programmes. But a virus may still be active since kill mem. does not fix the doio pointer. Turn of computer and start again. If there is a virus on the same disk as the killer, turn of the computer and start the killer from a totaly virusfree disk. For beginners: Put in the workbench disk (make sure it is not infected.) press CTRL and D while booting and release when the BREAK message appears. Then put in the disk with the viruskiller and type: df0:virusmurderer (return). Now the killer will start properly. If the workbench disk is infected then do the same thing but type: install df0: to kill the virus, and then start again. Lock: Locks a function to the right mousebutton. f.ex. you can lock seek and destroy and just switch disks and press the right button without having to care where the mousepointer is. Install "virusfree": Installs a small programm in the bootblock that tells you that the disk and memory is virusfree. It also check the memory for resident programes and allowes you to disable it. Resident: Makes a small programm resident that checks the memory for viruses and other resident programes. If there isn't any other resident programes the screen will go green but if it finds one the screen goes red. Now you have two choises either to press the left mouse button to disable it or the right one to cancel. You can also remove the programe by holding the left mousebutton depressed during reset, the screen will go blue to confirm the removal. Info: Showes some small info. Exit: When you have checked all your disks then choose this function to end the killer. (Very simple indeed.) There is also a copperbar behind the menu and it shows the status of the buffer. Red=Recognised virus. Blue=Unknown bootblock. Probably not a virus. Green=Normal dos bootblock or viruschecker. (The mousepointer also change color.) ** SOME WARNINGS ** If the killer is started from a virusinfected disk the virus may disturb the killer and infect disks that should be installed. This bug occurs because the killer does not fix the doio pointer. This may be fixed in the next version. Lock at the instruction to kill mem. for futher information. I am not sure how good the writeprotection check routine works. But i THINK it works fine. But be carefull, it may not work 100%. The killer uses df0: and does not check external drives.
