=============== ABOUT THIS DISK =============== - Essential Aminet vol.2 June 1994 - Introduction ============ Most large files downloaded from the Aminet can be compiled onto it's own self-booting disk. Some libraries will even compile small utilities onto 720K disks, leaving more than 200/300K free on every disk. What a waste. The Essential Aminet series intend to bring about most of the latest software from the Aminet and to compile them on self-bootable disks. However, most of the files are under 300K and would not usually be large enough for their own disk. The Essential Aminet volumes bring together the best of Aminet for that particular month. It does NOT mean that all the utilities/programs are new, they are programs that have been UPLOADED to the Aminet in that particular month. Who Compiled Them? Essential Aminet is compiled monthly by Northern Amiga Users Group, in association with VARK. Who's Vark? Vark is well known for his excellent, LSD Legal Tools-type, CLI utility compilations. Now up to version five they have received a warm welcome with both the Amiga press and public. All his compilations contain many useful programs, jam packed onto one disk. When are they Available? Essential Aminet is available the first week in every month. Unlike the Amiga magazines who release a March magazine in February, we would release our March compilation in the first week in April. Why? Simply because we need to spend the month collecting the best bits and pieces from the Aminet then allowing us a week to compile them. Where are they Available From? Vark and Northern Amiga Users Group will be distributing the Essential Aminet each month and as they become more and more popular they will be available from a magnitude of PD libraries. You will see utilities, reports, guides, icons, updates, patches and various other bits and pieces throughout the volumes. You may not see demos or games as they are generally self-bootable programs of their own right. June's Essential Aminet is a two disk compilation. It comprises of, Disk A AddressManager v2.0 AddressManager is an utillity which makes it easier to you to master all the information you have about your friends, familly, business partners or pets. It is not a professional Data-Banking-System but for it has a lot of advantages if you just want to manage names, telephone numbers etc. of some people: - AddressManager is very easy to use.You can learn all the functions in a few minutes. - AddressManager needs WB 2.0 or higher, therefore: - it uses things like AppIcons and AppWindows - if you own WB 2.1 or higher you can use it in English or German language - it looks quite good - AddressManager is SHAREWARE.Y ou can copy it, test it and if you like it you just send me a few money to become a registered user. Then you also can use the advantages of my special SERVICE. (see also SHAREWARE and SERVICE) ClipBook v1.1 Clipbook allows you to store text and graphics clips, scan through them and copy any of them to the standard Amiga clipboard. They can then be pasted into applications. To put something into the Clipbook you simply have to copy it from an application and paste it into the Clipbook and because the Clipbook visually displays a clip you won't ever waste time by loading the wrong picture or needing to print them all out. CpuUsage CpuUsage 1.0 is an extremely simple Cpu-gauge-thingy. It has no fancy userinterface, is not a commodity, takes no icon arguments. It is made to be as small and as little system-resource demanding as possible. DOSPrefs DOSPrefs is a small commodity with three functions: 1. Control the Wildstar flag of the Amiga OS 2.0+ dos.library. 2. Control the Noclick flag of the Amiga OS 2.0+ trackdisk.device. 3. Provide an all new Unixdirs feature. These functions can be controlled when DOSPrefs is started by Tooltypes, or at runtime by Intuition menus. MagicWord v1.1 MagicWord is a universal utility for word replacement and macros. Other than special solutions in editors and wordprocessors, MagicWord works with nearly every wordprocessor, editor and any other utility. Instead of recording macros for every application, it is easier to record the macros once with MagicWord for you'll be able to use them with future applications too. The use of MagicWord is only limited by the ideas of the user. This versatility can be used especially by replacing words. So you can let MagicWord type your address simply by typing \adr in any application. MagicWord can also be used as a little data base because you get access to information by typing keywords. The access is done rather quick by hashing. MuchMore v4.4 MuchMore is another program like More, Less etc. that prints ASCII-Files to the screen. Unlike these, it opens its own screen to show the text and to scroll it softly! But not only softly, MuchMore is also able to scroll very quickly if you want it to! Furthermore, there are commands to search for strings and to print the text. MuchMore will run on any Amiga, whether it's a PAL, NTSC, overscan or any Amiga in future. Because MuchMore's screen has no border, there are 80 characters displayed per line. MuchMore can load texts, which are crunched or crypted by XPK or powerpacker, if you have installed the XPK (and powerpacker) libraries. XPackIt v1.0 xPackIt is a cli command to crunch and decrunch files using xpk library. Features: 1) One program for crunching and decrunching. 2) Will automatically determine if a file is crunch or not and then either uncrunch it or crunch it. 3) Files can be encrypted, and passwords can be entered on the command line. 4) Default packing mode can be stored in ENV:xPackIt Disk B AmigaReport The Amiga Report is a weekly source for news, reviews and opinions of the Amiga and it's marketplace. Compiled with AmigaGuide. CD³² Bits CD³² Bits is a one-stop shop for all things CD³². Again, published monthly and in AmigaGuide format. The two pictures that come with the magazine haven't been included with the compilation due to lack of space. DisnMon v2.8 DiskMon is a DiskMonitor for the Amiga including, - BlockEditor: search/view/edit data on block-orientated devices such as FloppyDisk (Amiga 880KB, Amiga 1.71MB, CrossDos 720KB, CrossDos 1.44MB, ...), HardDisk (including Rigid-Disk-Blocks), RamDisk (RAD:, ...) and many others. - FileEditor : search/view/edit data of any file. - MfmEditor : search/view/edit data at low level on FloppyDisks. - Optimizer : Disk-Optimizer (Defragmentation, Reorganisation). - BamEditor : view/edit BAM (Block-Availible-Map) on FloppyDisks. - RepairTrack : recover lost data (read/write error) on FloppyDisks. ROM Icons The ROM Icons are a collection of well drawn 8-colour icons for Magic WB. SIP v2.18 SIP allows you to watch and manipulate most of the elementary parts of the Operating System of your Amiga, as (e.g.) Tasks, Libraries, Devices, Ports and Windows. It also brings you the possibility of viewing some of the most important vectors in the system and to clear them, to make sure to keep your system free of viruses and all the other garbage which affects working with your Amiga. StackMon v1.0 StackMon is a small utility to help programmers (and other users). Amiga programs use their stack (a special area of memory) to store temporary addresses, data, etc. The default stack is 4096 bytes, but this may not be enough; some compilers can require over 100Kb. The stack size for a shell is set by the 'stack' command. For a program run from Workbench, the size is given in the icon; use the Workbench 'Information' option to examine this value. TrackDiskprefs It's mainly a new preferences editor that will allow you to adjust the various trackdisk.device parameters in the same way you would adjust your screenmode or your printer parameters.
