PURPOSE:

   To print out mailing labels, phone lists, dial the phone, and 
   keep track of it all! 

REQUIREMENTS:

   Amiga ( duh ) with ADOS release 2.04 or higher. ( version 37+ )

INSTRUCTIONS:

   WORKBENCH:
      Just click on it, eh? TeleBASE will bring up a file 
      requestor if it can't find a file called "TeleBASE.phone" in 
      your s: directory.
      
      ToolTypes:
      
      You may enter one or more of the following Tooltypes into 
      your icon for TeleBASE. These will only be used when run 
      from the workbench.
      
      The tooltypes are...:
      ( DO NOT INCLUDE THE <>'s )
      
      FILE=<fullpathname>
         This is the full path of the file you want to load at 
         start-up. ( Defaults to s:TeleBASE.phone )
      
      STARTNAME=<something to search for> 
         This is some text you wish TeleBASE to search for on 
         startup. You may use the wildcards * or ? as 
         explained below in the FIND instructions.
         ( Defaults to the first record )
      
      WINLEFT=<integer number>
         This is the left position of the Main Window. 
         ( Default = 19 )
      
      WINTOP=<integer number>
         This is the top position of the Main Window.
         ( Default = 1 + WB titlebar )
      
      ZOOMLEFT=<integer number>
         This is the left position of the Zoom Window.
         ( Default = 19 )
      
      ZOOMTOP=<integer number>
         This is the top position of the Zoom Window.
         ( Default = 1 + WB titlebar )
      
      DIALPRE=<dialing prefix>
         This is the string to send your modem before the 
         actual number is sent. ie: ATDT or ATDP or even ATDT 
         *70,. 
         ( Default = ATDT )
   CLI:
   
      Enter "TeleBASE ?" for a template. You may specify from the 
      command line a file to load and/or a record to search for, 
      at startup. You may also choose window positons, dialing 
      prefix, and whether or not to call an entry at startup.
      
      Parameters:
         -L -> 
            Left position of Window ( case sensitive )
         -T ->
            Top position of Window ( case sensitive )
         
         -l ->
            left position of zoomed Window ( case sensitive )
         -t ->
            top position of zoomed Window ( case sensitive )
         
         -c ->
            Call entry. Only used with the -n option.
            This will cause TeleBASE to simply call a phone number 
            that you specify with the -n option.
            Does NOT run full program. ( case sensitive )
         -C ->
            Same as above, but TeleBASE continues to run
            after call. ( case sensitive )
         -f ->
            file to load on startup. ( not case sensitive )
         
         -n ->
            name to display ( or call with -c or -C option ) on 
            startup ( not case sensitive )
         
         -d ->
            string to send modem before dialing ( not case sensitive )

      Example:
         
         TeleBASE -fs:Business.phone -rRogers* -mATDP -c -t50

      WildCards may be used in the record to be searched for, as 
      shown above.The entry shown above will load the file 
      "Business.phone" in the s: directory, go to the first name 
      it finds that starts like Rogers*, and call the entry with 
      the dialing prefix of "ATDP". The zoom window's top co-
      ordinate will be 50.
      
      A suggestion might be to enter into your shell-startup file 
      something _LIKE_ the following:
         
         alias tb run >nil: <nil: c:TeleBASE -n[] 
         
         				_AND/OR_

         alias call  run >nil: <nil: c:TeleBASE -c -n[]
         
      This will allow you to enter "Call Scott", or tb roger*, and 
      the machine will know what you mean.



PROGRAM OPERATION:
   
   CLOSEWINDOW:
      To quit the program, close the window. ( of course ) There 
      is a requester for unsaved data asking "Save First?".
      ( right Amiga-Q )
   
   ADD:
      Adding a record is fairly simple. Just click on the ADD 
      gadget, and a new blank record will be shown ready to be 
      filled in. You may also use the short-cuts, 
      ( right Amiga-A, or the 'A' key )
   
   DELETE:
      Deleting is even easier. Click on DELETE, confirm the 
      requester, and whatever record is showing at the time is now 
      an EX-record.
      ( right Amiga-D, or the 'D' key )
   
   LOAD:
      If you have not changed the file when you ask to load, you 
      will get a file requestor. Pick the file you wish to load.
      
      If you have changed the file without saving, and you click 
      on LOAD, you will be shown a requestor asking "Load 
      Anyway?". 
      
      If you attempt to load a file that was not created by 
      TeleBASE, you will get an error. Also, if you enter a file 
      name that does not exist, you will get an error. The file 
      that is indeed finally loaded ( whew! )  is displayed in the 
      title bar of the program along with a counter of 
      "record number / number of records".
      ( right Amiga-L, or the 'L' key )
   
   SAVE:
      Click here and be saved. Simply press return after the File 
      Requester comes up to save to default/last file name. 
      ( right Amiga-S, or the 'S' key )
   
   CALL:
      This will send the string, "ATDT" ( unless otherwise 
      specified by you in the startup options ) plus whatever you 
      have entered into the "Phone" field out to your modem. 
      Probably the most important thing to remember is to keep 
      your preferences set up correctly for your modem. If you 
      have your preferences set up for a 9600 baud modem, and you  
      have your Amiga hooked up to a 1200 baud modem ( or anything 
      less than reflected by prefs ), this program will NOT WORK!
      
      If you have everything set up correctly:
         
      When you click on "CALL", you will see a requestor telling 
      you to pick up the phone. Make sure you give your modem 
      ample time to dial the number. When you click "Okay", your 
      modem will hang up, so you should have already picked up the 
      phone by then. If this still does not work, make sure you 
      are running IPREFS in your startup-sequence. 
      
      ( right Amiga-C, or the 'C' key )
      
      _NOTE:_
         Putting parenthesis, and hyphens in your phone number has no 
         effect on the dialing of the modem. The modem will ignore 
         all such eye fodder. So, entering your phone numbers like, 
         1(405)555-1212, is OKay!
   
   FIND:
      The FIND function has two options. There is a small find of 
      a line of text, and a more complicated ( and powerful ) 
      version to help you with more intricate tasks.
      
      SMALL FIND: ( lowercase f )
         In the Simple verson of find, you fill out a string 
         requester with a line of text to find. You may use 
         wildcards of ? and/or *. ( explained below ). TeleBASE 
         will search the first and lastname fields for a match, and 
         stop at the first occurance of such a match. Searching 
         again, will get you to the next matching record.
         
      COMPLEX FIND:
         In this version of FIND, you will see a blank record. Fill 
         this record out with whatever you wish to search for. The 
         program will search in each field that you do NOT leave 
         blank. So, if you want to see everyone that has a certain 
         zip code, just enter whatever in the zip code field, and 
         leave other fields blank. You can then press NEXT and BACK 
         to see what matches. You will only get a match when you 
         match ALL FIELDS ENTERED! 
         
         _NOTE:_
            When printing, while in FIND MODE, only records that
            match the search template are printed.
         
         To exit from FIND mode, simply click on the FIND 
         gadget, or it's keyboard equivalent.

      WILDCARDS:
         You may use the '*' and the '?' as wild cards in your 
         search. Wildcards are NOT assumed at the end of your 
         entry. That is to say, if you enter 'DAN' and you have a 
         record 'DANNY', you will NOT get a match. You will get a 
         match, however, with 'DAN???' or 'DAN*'. The search is NOT 
         case sensitive.
         ( right Amiga-F, the 'F' key, or the 'f' key. )
      
      PRINT:
         The print gadget also gives you a requestor asking you to 
         specify what to print. 
         ( right Amiga-P, or the 'P' key )
         
         Choices are:
            
            FULL
               This option prints a dump of the entire data file. See 
               CURRENT...
            
            PHONE
               This option will print out _ALL_ entries in the form:
               FIRSTNAME LASTNAME................................PHONE
               FIRSTNAME LASTNAME................................PHONE
            
            CURRENT
               This option prints out the currently displayed record in 
               the the form:
                           
                           FIRSTNAME LASTNAME
                           ADDRESS
                           CITY STATE ZIP
               
            CANCEL
               Print nothing.
            
            NOTE:
               After some trouble with some laser printers, I have 
               learned that you must have your margins released in your 
               preferences, to the maximum. ie: set left margin to 1, and 
               right margin to 80. ( or higher )
         
         MOVING AROUND:
            To move up in alphabetical order, click on the FORWARD 
            gadget, select 'Forward' from the menu, press ( right Amiga-
            . ), press the 'N' key ( for NEXT ), or hit the right cursor 
            key. Moving in descending alphabetical order is similar. ( 
            just opposite ). ( 'B' key for BACK and right Amiga-, )
            
         ABOUT:
            Pressing the HELP key will give you a small blurb about the 
            program version number and the wonderful, and modest 
            programmer.
         
         ZIPWINDOW:
            To resize the window, press the ESCAPE key while the cursor 
            is not in any string gadgets, or click in the Zoom gadget in 
            the window. 
         
         CURSOR_PLACEMENT:
            You can place the cursor in a gadget by pressing <RETURN>, 
            until it is where you want it. When the cursor is in the 
            last field ( Comment ) you may press <RETURN> once again to 
            cause the cursor to disappear. Then the cursor KEYS will 
            cause the program to step through your data entries. You may 
            also move the cursor down and up through the fields, by 
            using <TAB> and <SHIFT_TAB> respectively.

   MORE SUGGESTIONS:
      
      Well, maybe it's none of my business, but to make Telebase 
      work much better for you, I suggest you use it along with 
      MagicFileRequester ( © Stefan Stuntz ) and ARQ © ( Martin 
      Laubach ). Both are fine programs and will allow for a 
      better WorkBench environment.
