GREETINGS, FELLOW ADVENTURER! Welcome to ENCHANTED REALMS' Adventure Game Treasury, a product and service of Digital Expressions. All programs listed in this collection are freely redistributable, being either public domain or shareware in nature. These select adventures and adventure resources have been chosen for inclusion here because of their quality and value. Though many of these products are not of "commercial" stature, all are worthy of addition to your adventure library. Please be sure to read the documentation provided by the program's author. Thank you for your purchase from the Adventure Game Treasury. We trust you will have many enjoyable adventures. THE UNIVERSAL HINT SYSTEM HINTFILES: VOLUME 1 Greetings from the Realms! And, Welcome to the first volume of hintfiles prepared for use with the Universal Hint System, the brainchild of Jason Strautman. It employs lightly decoded hintfile databases that can be read on any machine that has a Reader. Hintfiles are created by volunteer gamers with a Maker program that is the complement of the Reader. Included on this first volume of Universal Hint System Hintfiles are the solutions for 40 adventure games, many of which cover adventures available on multiple platforms. When a sufficient number of additional hintfiles become available, we will offer a second volume in this (hopefully) ongoing series. Also included on disk are the Reader and Maker programs for your particular computer system, located in their appropriate directories. Please refer to any documentation provided. If you desire to write hintfiles for this system, please contact Jason Strautman before doing so to prevent an "overlap" of hintfiles for the same adventures. PREPARING THIS DISK FOR USE Before trying to access the hintfiles on disk, you need to do a little bit of housekeeping. IconX needs to be installed in the "C" directory on this disk so that each hintfile can be loaded from its associated icon, rather than entered in by name each time the Reader program is run. Prior to doing the installation, make a backup of this disk and store the original away for safekeeping. Next, double-click the PrepDisk icon and IconX will be copied to disk for you. You can now begin using the hintfiles. HINTFILES A & B Because of the large number of hintfiles on disk, and the space consumed by their attendant icons, the hintfiles have been divided alphabetically into two directories. The actual hintfiles are not in these directories, but are located in the directory UHSFiles. Hintfiles A & B simply contain the icon and its associated script file which loads the appropriate hintfile into the Reader program. If you want to copy a single hintfile to another directory, you will need to do a little renaming and script editing. Following is a list of the hintfiles appearing in this collection by icon name and full title. HINTFILES A BAT: B.A.T. WORKBENCH 1.3 USERS Those of you using Workbench 1.3 will notice what appears to be a reversed image effect with the colors black and white, and a slight difference in icon placement. This is due to changes Commodore made in the new Workbench 2.0 operating system. Since the new operating system is now available, and since most Amiga owners will employ this system in the future, all future releases from the Adventure Game Treasury will be set up for proper screen appearance under Workbench 2.0. If you would like to change the icons to look correct under Workbench 1.3, we recommend the use of the program RemapInfo. SHAREWARE Purchasing disks from the Adventure Game Treasury does not constitute the purchasing of the rights to shareware when it appears on disk. Each author retains the full rights to his work and should be justly compensated. So, if you find the program enjoyable and use it, please reimburse the shareware author for his efforts. By doing so, the whole adventure community benefits and the author is encouraged to continue his adventure writing endeavors.
